Exploration perhaps? More people doing it, and hitting relic sites, increasing supply?

Woo! CSM XI!

They are primarily used in cargohold and polycarbon rigs. Prior to the buff of mining barges, it was very common for a mining barge to have 3 cargohold expanders. Now that they have an ore bay, the cargohold expanding rig does not work on the orehold (only the 350 m3 cargohold).

TL;DR - demand died.

Wish I had this type of insight into the market. I bought a crap load of them at 57k thinking that there was only one way the price would head. Suppose have to wait now for a patch that will skyrocket the price for reasons that will remain a mystery to me.

Any colour you like.

It's been low for quite a few months now. The other main reason is the noctis. More if not most people use it compared to a year ago.

Mining barges and exhumers moved from using cargoholds to ore holds so one of the major types of ships that used cargohold optimization rigs no longer needed them. So demand dropped.

There should have been a spiked demand when they changed the skill requirements for Iteron V and Mammoth but the exploration changes knocked the wind out of those sails.

I can imagine the imminent industrial ship rebalance, with special purpose bays, may further reduce demand for cargohold rigs.
