This looks absolutely awesome. I am really excited that CCP are the ones doing this too.

PLEASE CCP learn from past successes and mistakes:

1. Dont use a custom built bespoke inhouse engine. Use something like Unity at least as middleware.

2. Concentrate on building a working, fun and balanced game, even at the cost of initial scope. Having a game that feels like it could be really good in 2-3 years time but is currently only just about "fun" because loads of the core mechanics and content is so epic in scope they havent actually been implemented yet.

3. FUN IS FOREMOST. Balance next. Range of context next. Awesome innovative features ONLY once the first three are achieved - an O-R dogfighting sim is awesome enough on its own without further feature creep.

4. DELIVER ON TIME - 2014 will be the year O-R really takes off. If CCP delays to 2015 it will have missed the boat. This really ties in to 1 - 3.

EDIT: please consider the above as questions, appropriately re-syntaxed in your brain!

Actual question - even if this is standalone initially, would CCP consider tying it into Dust? Presumably its a better fit there as it is twitch based?

1. Do you realise that the engine is already built? No idea what they're using, but the game's already running. It was a tech demo, now it's basically tweaks, tune-ups and a lot of content to go. The core of the machine is built.

2. This doesn't make sense. Please appropriately re-syntax in English.

3. On one hand, duh, we play games for fun. On the other hand, have you played EVE? We don't play it for fun!

4. No ****, kid.

Really, I think that CCP (being the experienced developers that they are) have a handle on this. This is what they do. Let them do it.

Early days yet but keep the questions coming. More information coming in the future. What I can say right now is that given the amazing reception the demo received from you and everyone else who played it, we simply had to take things further and make EVE : Valkyrie a real game. And already its looking great.
If you ate coming to Gamescom or the Cologne player meet I will see you there (I'm currently in Oslo airport waiting for my connecting flight).

There was also mention of Occulus being slated for XR. That would be a game worth flying in. Personally waiting for its release in November.

Two things I hope for:

1) I hope that it won't be locked just to a game console. I don't do game consoles. I won't get one, either. I want it for my uber PC gaming rig.

2) It would be so cool if these fighters could launch from carriers, and POS'es. In the EVE Online game.

3) Even if it will not be tied in to EVE Online the way Dust is (suppose to be), it would be really cool as a stand alone game. An earlier poster suggested that Valkyrie should follow New Eden's history and lore. I think it would be interesting to "live the lore and history of New Eden" as a pilot living in New Eden, or 'pilots', since New Eden's lore and history span thousands of years...

(EDIT: Make that, three things.)

Watch this space.  New exciting signature in development.

When IGN writes that it is a multiplayer but maybe also single player missions etc and only set in the universe (but not said to be on TQ) can we be safe to say this is totally a standalone game?
And if it is successful it might be introduced on TQ?

I hope CCP has realised that carrier and super carrier pilots would be extremely suspicious of letting somebody fly their fighters or fighterbombers if it's on TQ!!

yeah plus one for stand alone game. another guy made a great suggestion that major eve battles can be used for the multiplayer template.

though i do hope the single player version will get co-op too. that would be sick.

that or make it appart of eve but you are a fighter for the navy and have no real connection to the pod side of things. as thier fighters are controlled by the pilot and not the guy flying the fighter.

Yes. This kind of awesome is what you add to an MMO about spaceships - not that console FPS nonsense.

You must be new to this game Big smile

CCP = great ideas, delivering unbalanced or buggy code, fixing stuff bit by bit ... and then it's either awesome or broken for the next 3-4 years.

Anyway: Go CCP ! You rule ! (sometimes)

Can we count on more details during gamescon? Is it going to be full size space sim, or just pvp matches like in star conflict?

For me i think CCP needs to form a game plan and fix the problems with the games they have.

Dust is still a disaster and doesn't play a big role in the EVE Universe. I've never heard of a 1000 player dust battle the determined the fate of a planet.

Then they still need to fix a few things in the game of eve. Having a avatar and a captains quarters is okay i guess but why can't i move around in station or see other players. If I owned a office in space station i should be able to visit it. It would nice to also walk around space station more and view ships and market places.

I know it's all about space but adding those small things really brings out a game and makes me want to play even more.

This new game they are creating is a great idea if it can have some impact on the EVE Universe. I know some pilots may not trust other players defending there carrier but it brings a new level of excitement to the game. It will force members to work together more and rely on another. Maybe if you get a real life pilot that ship should get small bonuses so it's better then the current bots the carrier uses now.

They will have to make it so that you will want and need to real life pilots on your carriers.

They will also need different fighters now and maybe allow real life pilots to change the fittings.

Also being able to move around the ship or hanger area would be nice.

So will this be another airplane game with a space background? aka ships banking to turn as they would in an atmosphere.

Objects in space do not bank when they turn. There is no atmosphere for them to bank on.

The only show / movie that comes to mind that ever got it right is battlestar galactica. They actually followed the physics of what a ship would do in a space environment.

I'd suspect it's an F15 simulator with a space background.

I'm tentatively looking forward to this game, but the devil's in the detail - it always is.

Personally, I don't care whether it's going to be subscription-based, item-shop based, part of Eve Online or part of DUST as long as it's a good, fun game.

In principle, Valkyrie is just what the Eve universe needs, but I haven't a clue how this game could fit into it, so I await further announcements with baited breath.
