I did actually think that for a scholcky summer B-movie it made an interesting philosophical point about the Intaki concept of Rebirth. The whole idea that the Idama learned Jin-Mei martial arts by actually being a Jin-Mei in one of his past lives challenged the long-hend belief that Intaki lived their past lives solely as Intaki, and I thought that was refreshingly high-concept for this sort of movie.

No, it's in the script enough that I'm certain they were making an intentional point. It's not exactly subtle, mind you, but it's there.
