Space Friends,

a short preamble to cast context on this request.

Last night I log in, to see that my first FC in game bought a ship from me, a ship I ended up training due to his advice and example, years earlier in the game. It was a significant event, made me think of all the "eve is real" stuff like first time flying an interceptor - and overshooting tackle, or first ever killmail..

This set me on a train of thought about items in this game and how many we buy, especially ships, but occasionally you have that lucky ship that made it thru a few battles.

The essence of this request is to somehow formalize a ships history so that its age and owner(s) are permanently retained until it is destroyed.

New collectibles. New scams too! Can I haz +1 ?

I have nothing against this as such. It does strikes though that there are a large number of things in need of work that are more urgent, more useful or just plain better that need the time and resources spent on them.

I could see doing something like this until the ship is packaged.

As I understand it, the packaging is so the database can handle the huge number of individual items in games as a single item with a counter when stacked so as to reduce overhead.

When a ship is assembled, it's a unique entity in game. I don't think there would be any issue in retaining some form of history with the ship---much as we can name them and they retain the name until packaged. A simple text box, "the ships log" that we made individual entries in, would be simple to implement, if rarely used except for those rare folks that get into that.

Only if I can permanently disable it on literally every ship I ever buy, build or fly.

Taken from this thread:

Ship Stats (Built by/bought at/# of times unlocked/mileage/etc.)

A bit of background for you OP:

When each ship is Assembled it becomes it's own "data item" in the datebase however when it is Repackaged it becomes a generic item and loses this unique "data item" ID. All ships are tracked using one or the other. If your idea was put LIVE you'd be tracking all these ships in the database individually...

Not the first time this has been suggested and won't be the last and I wouldn't like to think of the impact on the databases TBH.

And this:

I have no problems with\against your idea just that I wouldn't like to see the performance of the cluster hit for, and pardon the expression, a bit of fluff.

I like the idea, but I understand the concerns raised by Maximus.

Could the ship history be kept client side prehaps - in much the same way as the fabled ship skins - and therefore offset any database load issues?

With how Often Ships Pop in this game, Is this Really a Feature CCP needs to invest time on? History would just be wasted when it pops...
