Drone salvage vexor?

I was looking at drone modules, and of course thinking combat. Then I had an idea.

If i put 4 drone control range modules in high slots I could have 120km drone range, then drone speed modules in the mediums to make them zippy. If you put 5 drones out you could basically just park in the middle of a wreck field and toss out the micromanagement of a noctis, as long as you weren't after any loot couldn't you? You just press "F" and they will salvage anything in drone range untill theres nothing left.

It's probably been done and discussed before, but I couldn't find it after a quick search. I just found it to be an interesting idea.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

Not a half bad thought, +1 for creativity.

Except salvage is usually not worth as much as the loot. Using a Noctis will always be better.

This game is about using the right tool for the job.

Also, post this stuff in ships & mods

You probably want the loot as well, I also doubt if pressing f works (it doesn't for mining, at least). You'd probably still need to target each wreck as well so it's not like you can go AFK after pressing f and they're all salvaged when you return. And your drones have to fly towards the wreck and return to deliver the salvage, which probably wouldn't beat the tractor beam's speed either.

As you can probably make up, I never used drones for salvaging so correct me if I'm wrong on any part...

Actually I use salvage drones all the time.

You just press F once, as it is the attack button for combat drones and you don't have to target any wrecks, they just go to work on any wreck that's white.

Maybe have some fleet work, a few drone boats strategically placed about to speed salvage, and then some indies scooping up loot as they go. It would be less work per person than with 4 beams and salvagers. One drone flies back while 4 continue on their salvage, and the superior indy hold helps.

I'm new to the game so I don't quite know how fleets would do this sort of thing.

The bad side is you have to command them for yellow wrecks I think.

First thing's first, not a bad idea.

Second, unless you are salvaging enemy drones or sleepers or very high level enemies, salvage is not very profitable. Not to say what you're proposing isn't a bad idea since it's pretty much free ISK for no effort besides warping in and launching drones. It's just not that valuable. As stated above, loot is usually worth much more than salvage.

Third, salvage drones aren't really that great, and you're much better off using an actual salvage module. They seem to have a tough time salvaging anything in a quick way.

Ok, good to know... I think it's very nice for multiple accounts during missioning. You can just do the missions with your main while AFK-salvaging with your 2nd account.

I would see commanding them to salvage yellow wrecks as a plus-side actually, because of the way the 'new' suspect timer works (meaning that everyone is allowed to attack you for the next 15 minutes). If you insist yellow wrecks are salvaged automatically as well, disabling your safety settings might be the solution for this.

I usually have room in the Vexor for 5 salvage drones with my compliment of other light/ medium drones as well, so if the mission isn't too huge I can do the salvage right then and there. If you can I'd say keep a couple in your Vexor anyway, you should be able to fit them.

I wouldn't normally bother coming back to salvage a lvl 3 mission and I am usually running them for standing and waiting for lvl 4's with that particular faction, but make a decent bit of side ISK from salvaging them with the drones at the time.

The power to cause pain is the only power that matters, the power to kill and destroy, because if you can't kill then you are always subject to those who can, and nothing and no one will ever save you.
