Does anyone know why Youtube is still not playing? (Firefox/Chrome)

I figured that Adobe, shockwave or whoever else broke youtube for the world would have by now fixed my browers/browsers. Low and behold.... no. Half of the time youtube does not play. I only get to see the commercials. Yay! Straight




Anyway, I reinstalled firefox 19 and it worked for a while... until it auto updated. I forgot why I reset the settings, but I forgot to tick the "no auto update box" and after I did the stupid thing restored itself to it's current up-to-date and totally broken version of itself. If it was just a firefox problem I'd understand. But chrome won't work either.




Have you guys had this issue as well? Did it get fixed for you? Did you have to fix it yourself? I am going to have to kill firefox again and with it all of my passwords and bookmarks. I would prefer not to.

I use Firefox and go Youtube several times every day.

I have absolutely no issues.

If you are seeing the ads, the clip should start immediately afterwards.

Not really sure if I believe you tbh.........

Youtube works fine with the latest Firefox. In general it's very unlikely anything is broken on their end and very likely something is wrong on your computer. If they had ****** up, there would be outrage and people posting about it all over. As you don't provide detail about what actually happens(error message, black screen on video, what?), I'd guess it's either a problem with a browser plugin or video codec/setting.

Just posting another possible reason, if some videos on youtube play fine for you, but others just show a black screen. There is a HTML5 trial for youtube that might be active for you. Opting out would be the fix for this particular problem. If some videos reliably do play and some don't you should definitely focus on what is different about them. It will aid in finding a fix or at least narrow your search down a bit.

There was a problem with Adobe shockwave plugin that killed youtube for allot of people. The fact that none of you have even heard of this does give me pause however. Ill try that html thing. Also, I had no idea opera existed. Ill give that a shot too.

Well I must say, so far Opera has not given me a single hiccup, and I kind of like this browser system. It seems faster some how. I guess I got something unexpected out of this whine thread Big smile
