so anyways today i was thinking about the early days of eve and thought it would be cool to post some of my fond memories from my newbie days in 03. and it would be cool to hear your stories too.

so i remember my first trip into low sec in my might moa with tech 1 heavy beam lasers. me and my pal ctbadirontree in his thorax killed a rat and found an extruded heat sink, wich was about the equivelent of officer loot these days. this was back before battleships even.

i also remember being able to jam a single frigate in 0.0 and chain spawning for hours and having a dense cloud of cans to loot after.

oh and mines i loved mines. a corp mate of mine decided to play with the in the system of Halle. he launched them around the gates, the stations the belts and was pissed that they didnt do anything, so he heads off to yulai (old jita) and half way there he gets raped by concord cuase some one ran into one of his mines lol.....

anyways share your memories or troll me

I REMEMBER WHEN THE WARP TUNNEL NOISE WAS THE LOUDEST IN THE GAME!

Or when star gates made humming noises.

And when sounds would be Doppler shifted as you warped into or out of a location with ambient sound.

I remember making bookmarks everywhere and ninja mining in my mega in 0.0....

I remember flying through space and seeing someone in MOO in the system and pooping myself.

I remember winning 7 million off DJ Doby on EVE Radio and hanging out in their IRC channel and chatting with CCP Pann and Keiron...and Rinnywee :P And going to the 24/7 EVE Radio launch party and meeting up in Nottingham with everyone!

I think the Blackbird used to look quite differently in the past, too.
It had some silly pointed headpiece that made it somehow look like a Smurf.
But maybe my memory is just playing tricks on me.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

When my character used to wear sci-fi clothes, not Old-Navy.

But seriously... the first time i went into lowsec, I was in a mission fit Myrmidon (running missions). Jumped through and got tagged by two gate campers. In a fit of panic I turned round and began burning back to the gate. I was pretty new to the game, very new to pvp in Eve.... had no idea what ships were being used against me.....

Despite running, I decided I wasn't going to out like a Be'atch, so I targeted one of the ships and did my best "Flash Gordon approaching, Fire All the Weapons!"

My tank held, I did enough damage to scare them off and jumped back to HiSec with my hull in tatters.

Received an Evemail from one of them saying "Props for fighting back, if you ever want to go pirate let us know"

As a semi-noob, that was a great experience!

I remember back in '07 When probing actually required planning and skill (I'm not complaining about the current iteration). Nothing beat the feeling of triumph of finding a single signature after a hour of creating about 100 probing bookmarks dotted around the system. (And then the rage of not having a single good drop Evil)

I also remember when the Amarr Cov Ops was based on the crucifier hull. I still prefer that model tbh.

I remember when everyone chose Caldari so they could get the best PVP stats. I didn't. I chose Amarr because they have slaves. **** yeah. Now it doesn't matter. That's good.

I remember getting my first battleship, and using it for mining. Because in gallente space the only thing better at mining than a potato was a megathron, and that was seriously expensive.

I remember when I started the game I just right into 0.0 pvp. I was flying a hawk and in one of our roams after many systems we got into hi-sec and I immediately locked a smaller frig and started shooting at it only to find myself instantly podded.

That was my first experience with CONCORD :D

I remember doing the same 3 missions over and over again, questioning myself why the agent didn't tip me for another agent with different missions so I'd actually progress in the game... So instead I switched to mining.

Flying around in my Bestower thinking I'm the bomb because I was flying this oversized ship which I could only just afford (compared to a frigate it kinda is oversized). I ended up flying in lowsec without even knowing it, thinking I was safe from all players. A few minutes later I ended up being chased by pirates asking me for ransom for accessing their territory, so instead of running I stopped for a while to answer their call telling them they won't get a single dime... Bye bye Bestower!

i remember when noone knew how to fit ships, everything was just random stuff, or lasers on everything ever

i remember in the beta, when the market was not much used or functional, i had a exequror crusier, with small lasers, and inertia stabs.. because nothing on market, and that was the items i found..
4/4/4 slot exequror that looked like it had been grown instead of built.. tons of veins and stuff, man that was awesome

i remember when tanking was something noone tried, because there was no stacking penalty on anything, so with all low slots heatsinks an amarr BS could just volley anything... this part i dont miss actually

i remember "no we are never adding an autopilot" from the beta, man am i glad they gave up on that one
i remembet travelling without the autopilot route plotter, or a functional map, and just getting so lost i had to settle and start over, nope, i'm never finding my way back, ever
this happened more then once...
i remember the eve map 3rd party project, a printout map of all of eve, to help people not get hopelessly lost

i remember in 03, no shortcut gates, luminaire - jita was something like 40 jumps.. it made the world feel huge and epic actually
although it made travel take days,
my friend making a char in amarr space, and... oh.. i guess i'll see you sometime november then...

i remember using a dominix to move drones for resale, because 5000m3 drone bay
i remember laser dominix because i ran out of ammo, and the nearest market was 30 jumps away..
oh **** it, never need ammo again!

i remember bigger is better, for everything, battleship turrets tracked just as well as frigate ones, trying to fly a frig to pvp, and NOPE, battleship, everything got one-shoted as fast as the battleship could target..

I still have the box
