Level 5 Command Center Upgrades pointless?

I hit level 4 command upgrades to get more out of PI, and to make a tier 3 PI item, i have to use 2 extractors, and change their extraction every day to get the 4 resources I need. That makes sense.

But at level 5, I only get another 2000MW of power, and its not enough to add even 1 more extractor, so it doesnt change my setup or optimize PI. It literally does nothing to improve my PI income, at a 13 day-ish training time. Everyone I am talking to also says its useless to take it to 5 because there is NO WAY TO MAKE A T3 PLANET REACTION STABLE.

To make a tier 3 item, not the best tier mind you...for those you need 3-5 whole tier 3 capable planets. Anyways, to make a tier 3 item on a theoretically stable planet you need:

4x extractor
4x extractor heads
4x basic factories
3x advanced factories
1x storage facility
1x spaceport

All that and you get 19300MW...300MW over your maximum level 5 command center output. And thats before you spend MORE power on all your links. I NEVER have to worry about CPU, cpu is laughable as it never even comes close to the struggle power gives me. Is it really useless?

We need a skill to reduce power on extractors or their heads...or just add 1000MW more power to the level 5 command center.

If it doesn't do anything to your specific setup, don't train it.

Not to people that use one planet to make p1, or p2, or use factory planets.

It is indeed useless if you want that ridiculous conformation. Pretty nice of them to make it so the newbie actually do research on efficient setups

Why would anyone want this setup ever? The game is inadvertently doing you a favor in not letting you do this. Here's a hint: extractors use a LOT of resources, but each extractor head uses much less. And, you can have up to 10 heads per extractor.

Wasn't useless for one of my characters, who managed to fix slow factory planets by training it to 5.

You are seriously thinking you need 3 extractors on a planet ?

I do a lvl 5 and if it's just for the extra storages I can put on a planet.

it's a big help if you want to make P2s on a planet.. 2000mw power means 4 more extractor heads you can plunk down.
Also more CPU is good for more storage, or for factory planets to make P4s.

it depends on what you do with your PI really. Personally I trained it up waay back when there wasn't such a thing as an extractor head. more extractors back then meant more production and you could run a P3 chain on a single planet with CCU 5 and be stable.

^^^ This.

You can play one game nicely with extra storage: if you have a planet deficient in one raw material, but abundant in another, run one extractor to fill up a storage bin with the high yield stuff and the other extractor pulling in the lo yield stuff. When the storage bin is close to full, reconfigure to run two extractors on the lo yield commodity and the factories will suck matz from storage and extractors.

Now the dose of reality - I only need to do this on one planet. And I only do this because this one non optimal planet is so close to my base of Ops in lo sec --> efficiency if supply chain. The real answer : find planets with better yields if at all possible.
