Doesn't that all depends on how many numbers after the dot CCP are saving in the database, or what type of numeric it is?
If its up to 5, all you need is 5 more kills to get is 30 pods to get to a -9.999995 and the rounded number will end up being -10.00000.
If its a floating number, it might be almost infinite. Large enough that you you will never reach it.

Have you try to smartbomb jita 4-4 undock ?

this is pretty much the best idea. make sure you get next to a pod when you do it first, never know what km you might get.

making a corp while in jita (or moving your corp headquarters there) means you can set your pod for 4-4 as well. just keep undocking in an ibis with a micro bomb on it and you'll hit it in ten minutes.

i make spreadsheets for pretty cheap. contact me for more info.

You don't actually have to kill pods, you only need to aggress them. So if you go somewhere with a good number of pods flying about, you can use an ECM burst.

wheres the fun in that

or smartbombs

Does it work if you agress ships instead of pods? If yes, the Jita-Perimeter gate at prime time is a good place to "hunt" I guess.

Took me three to five pods in a 0.5 to get from -9.99 to -10.

Can't recall exactly anymore. :(

Good luck finding targets actual 30km away from the undock ...

... otoh, of course, some people actually do undock and cruise for a while.

I read this thread wrong.

I came looking for a 20mil ISK meth problem.

Leaving disappointed.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

This is the best worked out but it cant be right.. i have podded 9 pods and not even a 0.0001 that's a third of your total amount and it should get progressively harder

Keep at it. There's no mathematical reason that you should be sticking at 9.9997 that I can see. Keep going, it's for Science!!!

How many pods did it take for 9.9996 to 9.9997?

dont remember but im keeping a tally from 9997 to 9998.

il let u know

no one yet to be able to give me a number so no payout as of yet

Serious effort has been made to document how floating point numbers should behave. IEEE floating point. Try reading up on the formats and the rounding rules.

IEEE = Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers

You would need a dev to tell you what standard the EVE servers are using. Even then, there could be some arbitrary rounding in the code somewhere.

Mathematically, using %'s you can never get to 0.

But for all intents and purposes as well as practicality, the standard is to wait until a certain point that allows you to go "Yep, it's pretty much -10."

The math twist on the "man walks into a bar..." joke explains this to the common layman (the OP), it goes like this:

"Infinitely many mathematicians walk into a bar. The first says, "I'll have a beer." The second says, "I'll have half a beer." The third says, "I'll have a quarter of a beer." The barman pulls out just two beers. The mathematicians are all like, "That's all you're giving us? How drunk do you expect us to get on that?" The bartender says, "Come on guys. Know your limits.""

"Know your limits." is a reference to a mathematical procedure in situations like this.

So, literally, you will never hit true -10 sec status. Practically, it's whatever arbitrary number CCP decided on to avoid the following:

-9.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999....forever

I'll be sure to remember this joke.

All you need:
- Your PvE alt with 5.0 or higher sec status.
- Solar system with 1.0 security.
- Untanked Ibis (ship your PvE alt is flying)
- More than 2 billion worth of implants in PvE alt's head.
- More than 20 billion worth of PLEX in cargohold.

Smartbomb that Ibis and then the pod.

Instant -10,0000.

how many pods would it take to get from -9.9997 to -10.0000

20m isk for a worked out solution

Hard to say, I killed some 600 pods I think but I have to kill rats once in a while that ruin my neg sec status.
there is a -10 displayed in the char sheet after a while at least...

i have a -9.999999999999999999 and have been for many many months after thousands of pod kills in low sec (0.3/0.4 mostly).

To get to a full -10.0000 id have to aggro/kill pods in 1.0 space, to a big enough % hit to tip it over.

The EVE API use 14 decimals for sec status so that is how far you need to push it to show up as -10 on places like eveboard.

there is at least 13 peeps on eve board with true -10.0

http://eveboard.com/fullranks/50-lowest-security-status

its not that hard to get there now.. in the old days it was something to be worked hard at.
