So I figured this place is as good as any for a newb to check in.

Actually I'm sort of a born again player. I played for a little while nearly 10 years ago and gave it up; sold a few accounts off hadn't logged in since Nov 2003. But the other day I saw an artical about EVE and thought maybe I'd revisit it. Knowing I left one account untouched; I logged in and low & behold, I still have characters and as luck would have it, something to pilot as well.

Things seem...more complicated than I remember. More skills, more ships, space is bigger sort of...I dont remember certifications, I used to have some impressive trade routes and contract orders though I fear those were probably on the accounts I sold off for a pretty penny.

A ton of my fittings on various ships dont work, I either need new skills, or the hardpoints have changed for the ship itself.

The worst feeling I have is that i have no recollection of which low sec systems I can Jump to without getting ganked, so I don't know how many assets I'll be able to recover. I was able to pilot a shuttle to a station where my Megathron was waiting, but again, with all the new tech out there, I doubt a Mega buys me much security....

Anyway, a bit of rambling from a quazi newb...fly safe.

ETA: since this is a Q&A forum, : I took the training on exploration, how random are the Wormholes you encounter, am I very likely to end up in low sec space hell with no chance of getting back if I enter one in say.. a frigate?

There has been an expansion released every 6 months since you quit 10 years ago so...yeah, a lot has changed. In a good way. The learning curve has been flattened a lot and a lot of absolutely godawful design decisions (learning skills) were fixed.

Up until about a year ago, it would not be a stretch to say that ~75+% of tech 1 ships in the game were completely and utterly trash due to the tier system. Since then, they've all been completely rebalanced.

Wormholes are complicated. As a general rule, visit the wiki to read up on game mechanics. If you show info on the wormhole you find, it will tell you whether it goes to hisec, lowsec, nullsec, or "unknown space". There are about 2500 wormhole space systems which do not have stargates or stations and only exit to known space via other wormholes.

just FYI: selling accounts is against the EULA, so if i were you, i would not brag about it, even if it was 10 years ago. otherwise, here is some random advice:
- lowsec is inherently dangerous. the best way to find out how 'hot' a system currently is would be to check the ingame map or dotlan for recent ship/pod kills.
- if you want to get your mega into hisec in one piece, i would advise you to cram the low slots with warp cpre stabilizers and nanofibers and fly just after downtime.
- certificates are not very useful and are going to get reworked pretty soon; don#t pay too much attention to them.
- wormhole space is basically lowsec without stations and without local, so you should not expect to come out alive if you go in.
- if you really want to go full spaceship manmode, you should spend the next week or so just reading about everything and anything. ships, modules, markets, PI, politics, whatever, just try to soak up some knowledge so you can assess where you stand and then decide where you want to go.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Thanks for the advise, I'm not sure if it was against the EULA back then or not, but I certainly wasn't aware of it.
For what it's worth, I have no plans to do that this time around.

I've been browsing through the various wikis, etc. trying to relearn what has been lost, Thanks for the link I'll check it out!

Do all the tutorials! All of em. It's worth the money, the rep, the prizes, and the information.

A common move after that is the Sisters of Eve epic arc.

Cool, I started with the Exploration, and the military and Adv military. Those are done, I think the only ones left there at the academy are the industrial, and...trade maybe? They are all worth it though huh? Maybe it'll help give me a better handle on playing the market again and best hubs, shortest vs more secure routes etc.

Thanks =-)
