Did CCP originally intend there to be large alliances?

Sure CCP wanted a sandbox. Sure they wanted to see what would happen like everyone else. But did CCP ever imagine large coalitions that could field thousands of ships would come into existence? Was the original vision more like the wild west and less of the zerg-blob-zerg?

As these large space battles get more and more e-fame I wonder if CCP will be influenced to set up more of these situations. Hopefully CCP will keep their focus on balance for all security status', but fame makes people do crazy things.

If CCP only caters to the blobs for a little bit of e-fame, they will soon see their game crashing down after the sheeple who joined cuz of a story they heard get bored and go play star citizen.

In short nope, there never used to be an alliance mechanism, when people formed unofficial alliances, CCP implemented the current system to officially facilitate what players were already doing, alliances were an emergent activity that was unforeseen and then recognised as a good thing.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Its why I am starting to think they may start to implememt coalition technology...

It's human nature to want to explore. To find your line and go beyond it. The only limit, is the one you set yourself.

CCP has been chasing after player-driven developments pretty much forever. Including the massive coalition/alliances.
They knew *something* would happen, but not what, or how, or how large. Gotta give 'em credit - they've done a pretty good job of keeping up with the wild and crazy things the players have done.

They probably didn't even foresee thousands of players, let alone alliance's with thousands of players, let alone fleet fights with thousands of ships...

Unofficial alliances were around pretty much from the start - Venal, Stain and Curse all had "alliances" in place by June 2003.

I wasn't on the beta but from what I'm told there were requests for "treaties" (AKA alliances) even then so I'm not sure it counts as "emergent gameplay" Blink

I'm posting to inform you that your use of the term "sheeple" has exceeded the universal limits of being edgy and unique.

From this point onward, anyone using the therm "sheeple" is now just another member of the flock, following the lead of actual creative and rebellious leaders.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Absolute bunk. Just because the feature wasn't implemented in V1 doesn't mean it wasn't planned for.

Player-owned structures, sovereignty, large alliances, etc. these were all imagined and planned for long before they were implemented in the game.

"Emergent activity that was unforeseen" lol.

The numbers for Max corp / Alliance size are quite insane.

How the players reacted inversely sane (jump on that before it gets corrected).

Cats out the bag now :-)

Only feasible area of change would be imposing limits / taxing blue lists (or hey, what players originally asked for, treaties which you could put limits on).

Wouldn't hold your breath though. The few [max of 5?] that it would destroy are the ones that shout the loudest.

If I was the designer here, I'd force proximity to founder to be a factor. Corp founder lives in nul, but you live in high? OH well always noob corp to log into.

I'm not actually bad, just evil and like the "stick two people In a closest" analogy.

Emergent may have been the wrong word, although it usually applies to stuff that wasn't foreseen by the designers, creative may be a better word to use.
