Dose SLI/CROSSFIRE setup work with eve

I'm about to build a new machine and am considering using a cross fire/SLI set up. Do any of you play on such a set up and is it of any benefit doing it. I currently play on 2 monitors running a ati HD7770 which runs the game on max graphics no problem.
so is it of any benefit building my new rig round a cross fire setup?

I think you answered your question already.
What I found to be a bottleneck is system memory in large fights. Other than that, Eve even runs on my onboard GPU easily.

The complications that come with sli / crossfire outweigh most of the positives, your far better off getting a better single GPU.

the problem with sli / cross most of the time is when you read benchmark scores they look great, but in practice you wont see a huge difference. not to mention the extra power consumption.

a good 7950 will OC pretty easily to be onpar with a 680, at a fraction of the cost.

but to answer your question more seriously we'd need to knwo the res your playing each of those monitor on.

but a a rough answer : yes sli will work when ever applicable, regardless of the application. However, if your running multiple client in window mode, unless they changed it, it wont be applicable.

some reading for you :

Wow. Yeah, no.

Is there overhead? Yes. Does it "outweigh" the benefit of having two GPUs? No, of course not. Don't be ridiculous.

Benchmarks are in practice. That's how benchmarks work.

Relevant how?

Did YOU actually read that? Because it doesn't support anything you just said.

It is always better to have one really strong card instead of two cards in SLI.

Yeh but often having 2 cheaper cards can output more power than a single expensive card. This all depends on how much you are willing to spend.

To OP if its just for Eve , i wouldnt bother i have a 670 and it runs 2 eve clients on max settings and a Fifa client on medium settings all at 60 fps. If you want to play other more demanding games go for it.

For EVE no. Different consideration to be taken if you play other games too tho.

Uhh, yeah, no. If those two cards are the same as the "one really strong one" then they will work better.

Seriously, where do you people come up with this ****?

Yes, there's some overhead involved in SLI which means that two cards are not exactly as powerful as 2x one card, but 1.66 is still greater than 1.00.

He means it's better to have a high end than 2 mid range for example. The same TOTAL price point but more performance. But sadly he's still wrong these days because the high end prices are too damn high for it to work that way anymore.

First of all i never said 2 gpus were BAD i just said they came with complications.

Suturing is stil an issue even in 2x titans, and requires alot of knowledge on the users part to to config them properly.

benchmarks are not in practice entirely, it's similar to when they test cars and brag about how fast the can travel in a straight line but we all know not all roads are straight.

power consumption is extremely relevant, more power = more heat. its far more serious then chucking an extra card into your system, you may find you need to upgrade your PSU & add other cooling measures to your system, thus outweighing the "cost" advantage myth that 2 cheaper gpus are better then 1 powerful one.

I posted a link to a blog explaining the pros and cons of 2 gpus, allowing the op to make an educated decision on what he wants to do, because at the end of the day, its his money & he will do what he wants.

To clarify a final reply of what others are saying before this turns into a battle of the brainless as it already seems to be,

pros of dual gpu :

Better performance in theory

higher resolutions on multiple monitors ( if you have 2x 1920 res there no point in dual )

cons :
most games don't support it on release, meaning you'll forever be waiting for driver to play them properly, or have to play them on 1 less powerful gpu instead of just buying a more powerful gpu to begin with.

stuttering is still an issue, albeit less common now a days. still just the fact it can happen makes it a ball ache.

Its not an simple as buying 2 cheaper gpus, you'll end running out of Vram and all sorts of problems. read this to make sure your current card is worth while using cross fire on :

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/245454-33-crossfire-faqs

Cross fire is still behind SLI, where as value for money a single amd card is better then a nvidea at the moment.

Scaling is still terrible in some games

but my ultimate advise is
: single gpu. save yourself the hassle.
: Don't ask for advise on a computer game forums, check out toms hardware, we'll help you build your whole system there.

And to everyone else : don't bother replying, i don't care.

Honestly if you play any other game design your system around that. Eve isn't all that taxing unless you're running a lot of characters at once.

I Dualbox using a i3 and 260GTX, both clients at highest res and settings.

Solid 55fps on both clients.

Except for large fights, where I run 1 client and settings are on low.
