Link to the image you're using, not to some unspecified google search result. It'll break less…

If your looking for a way to add illumination to your textures try this method. First create the texture using GIMP and then import it into the Unity Gaming Engine making certain MIP Maps is off when importing the texture. Next create a plane and make certain that the texture is facing you and is parallel on all sides and fill the editing screen completely. Next add the illumination effect and save the scene. Then use the Sniping tool and highlight the entire texture and Snip it and save.

Another cool way to make textures is to the following.

To make a ship hull take an image of model kit spars such as the following:

Model Kit Spar - Fighter Wing Top and Bottom

In the graphics editor such as GIMP 2.8.6 simply mask (marching ants) off the areas of the spar to be used. In this case the area that wont be used is the null space between the model spars and the model kit pieces theirself.

Once you have removed the null space create a new image and apply the smaller detail lines to the new texture.

Another cool thing that you can do with model kit pieces is that you can make models of them.

Take either the top or bottom wing and removed it from the rest of the kit spars. I use Sketch Up for the extruding process because its really easy to extrude.

Make the kit piece into a new image / texture and paint it on the flat surface of a plane. Next adjust the texture until it appears as a single image on the plane. Outline the edges of the wing and other areas. Remove the 3D Model Flash , the area around the model wing and then extrude the plane left behind. If you have done every thing correctly your 3D model should look just like the wing from the model thus creating a completely new type of ship.

Add wingy bits and turrets as you see fit.

Was nice once I could read it. Very informative.

_It's very simple, really. If you see Tengus on scan, they are ratting. If you see a shitload of Tengus, the Russians are blobbing. If you see Proteuses on scan, they will be on top of you in about a second. If you see a shitload of Proteuses, the big boys are having a goodfight. _

Eh?

Step (1) Intend to make game textures
Step (2) Become a model maker
Step (3) ...

Hmmmmmmmmm. Unconvincing.
