Black monolith in Dead End nerfed for sightseeing?

I used to play Eve years ago, and still have a fraps of my first visit to Dead End to see the Monolith. It was near Planet 5, Moon 5, it was massive, and it was slowly rotating about its mid axis, end over end. It was side-on to the system's sun. It was extremely cool, awese for screenshots and I sat there in my velator for ages just soaking up the ambience.

I took a friend there yesterday in shuttles. She'd never seen it. I was quite disappointed to find it's been moved away from the moon, it's now motionless in space, and there are now a number of rats hanging around. They killed our shuttles in short order, leaving us of course in our pods. The kills aren't an issue, it was a sightseeing trip and nothing of value was lost, but the rat-chatter snarling and grunting in the background sort of killed the mood of the object. Screenshot ops are also worse now due to the abscence of the moon.

Bit of a shame.

Well, pirates want to see the sights too. Perhaps the Blood Raiders found some use for the monolith and have been trying to move it away. Or maybe they just saw you on local comms, and didn't like the look of you and your "sightseeing" friend. What were you REALLY doing there?

Haha What are you implying, Dead End is a hot spot for dogging ERP in Eve?

It's a but of a personal bugbear of mine that 'space tourism' isn't given more attention by the devs. The general look (especially with the atmospheric soundtrack) of New Eden I think could really lend itself to more cool 'tourist' sites. I know there are quite a few places like the Serpent's Coil and stuff already, but maybe if there was a slightly more dedicated push, maybe in the tutorial system, to encourage 'screenshot safaris', more hisec folk would venture out into lo and nullsec. I'd be happy to risk PvP getting to see more complicated 'scenery' complexes, but having rats present by default makes doing it a tad too risky.

We did go see the Eve collapsed Jumpgate too. That's quite cool.

This. Everyone hop in a rookie ship and go shoot the Monolih in protest. It worked in Jita, right? Big smile

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

Don't know what is worse... Whining about sightseeing...or being ganked by rats while in shuttles...
