Why is there no trial for returning players?

I haven't played for around 2 years and I'm quite disappointed to see that for new players there are two trials (a 14 day and a 21) but that there is nothing for returning players.

Indeed I could create a brand new account on the quite generous 21 day trial - But why not make that available to people who haven't played for say, 12 months?

I want to try out what I'm sure have been some great changes to the game - But at the same time I don't want to start from absolute scratch.

Given this is quite off putting for returning players - why not lure us back in with at least a week or two free to try some of the changes?

I can see that being a little irritating.

But 21 free days starting from scratch is a lot different that 21 free days on a player who is already skill/geared up.

You've been playing EvE for 6 years and gate camping is the best idea you can come up with? XD

Trails are trials, they are for people who are not sure if they will play the game and want to try it out. As you have already played and decided to come back, you are not trying it out, you have already tried. Therefore no free game time for you.

The free trials have pretty heavy skill training restrictions (If I remember correctly you can't even fly a t1 industrial.). You probably have skills that wouldn't be allowed on a free trial. A 14 day "come try us out again" option with no skill training for returning players might be possible, but considering how much the existing buddy system is exploited, I'm not sure CCP would be willing to put something like that in the game.

There has been "welcome back and try again" offers at a discounted rate.

But none active right now I think.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

You're quite wrong. There is free game time for me. 21 days of it in fact. However I'd spend much of that time doing things I've already done - which isn't very compelling.

I tried what the game is like 2 years ago. A lot has changed since then.

I, too, am not sure whether I will play the game and want to try some of the changes that have come in since last I played.

Is it that difficult to believe that I don't want to pay £9.99 to check things out when, if I start a trial account, I can see a lot of the changes but will be forced to start from square 1?

I've been playing eve on and off since 2007 and in my off times I have received multiple offers from CCP about re-joining. Some offers required a few dollars to play for a month again, but some were also free. I believe it was 5 days free or something.

Not much use for you right now.. Just wanted to say they do offer unsubscribed players a few days free occasionally. But if you just want to see how stuff is changed lately, create a new trial account and when you like it subscribe again.

Maybe you can enlighten us on why you decided to take a break the first time as well as what drew you back, then I can better answer this question.

Not trying to be rude here, but I guess I'm unsure on what your beef is.

Trial accounts/periods aren't for charity or kindness. They are marketing vehicles to attract additional people into becoming paying customers.

In your situation, CCP already has your interest and your skilled up account that has value to you. What possible benefit do they have by offering it back to you free again?

You mentioned that you want to check things out since a recent update. If thats truly the case, then just start a trial account. Your old account is not necessary to "check things out".

If what you want is all your old stuff back for free, ... not sure what to tell ya.

Just watch your email. They occasionally send 5 days free for returning players. That's when I decided to reactivate.

I've seen a few old faces lately, they told me they had a 5 day offer so maybe keep an eye on your email.
