Banning system

I don't know whether any other teams have had an issue, but the banning system was pretty buggy for our match today.

We had the first ban, which was fine, but for our second it bugged out. It only showed me one of our opponents bans, and it registered as one of ours.

I banned celestis and sleipnir (while only being able to see one of SNUFF's bans even though we banned first) and was then given this screen:

Picking your final ban without seeing what the other team banned is obviously not ideal.

Is it a one-off bug, or have others had issues?

The UI is slightly buggy for me, but it worked. My team was the second ban, and it said "Your team bans:" and listed what they had banned, then gave me two drop downs. The wording on that screen could have been improved.

Ultimately it worked just fine for me, just was slightly confusing when trying to read it.

Had first ban tonight and faced exactly the same bug described in the OP.

We had first ban and banned crucifier. Then, after the opponent was supposed to do both of his bans, the banning UI said we banned Armageddon and the opposing team banned cruci. We got very confused.
Then GM told us DS wanted to ban Rattlesnake, but screwed up their second ban (that means they must have lost their second ban) but when I look at the match replay it shows that DS successfully made both bans UghUghUgh
Hard to imagine more confusing and ******** banning process. I mean how can you screw up such simple part of the AT?

PS I can provide chat logs with GM btw, but yet not sure tournament rules allow that.

Our bans were completely crap too. I was given the banning window and it was showing no enemy bans, so I figured I was the first to ban. Fine. I banned the Armageddon. About two minutes later I get the window again, and it shows no bans for us (Razor) and it shows our opponent banned the Armageddon. I then ban the Bhaalgorn, as the timer was ticking. I get one more window asking for confirmation, showing that we (Razor) did not ban anything and that the opposing team banned the Armageddon and Bhaalgorn. Obviously this isn't right, but I can't chat with the GM or anything until I click "OK" in the banning interface. After that, I get notified by the GM that the opposing team banned the Dominix and Maulus. I never saw a single enemy ban before I had to submit BOTH of my bans. I asked the GM about it and he mentioned something about "human nature." ???

I have screenshots of the fiasco, but I'm too lazy/drunk to post ATM. It sucks to sink so much time and prep into something only to have a fairly important interaction (the banning) be so broken.

TL/DR: I had to submit all of my bans without seeing any of the opposing team's bans.

The real question is, why have people suffer a flawed UI when the job could be accomplished better and faster through a text chat.

The reason we are going with an automated tool like this in stead of text chat is the fact that text chat bans during the New Eden Open were slow and sloppy. Automation is a much more optimized approach to bans due to them being concise on time and on the captains screen rather than dependent on a GM.

That said, we will of course continue to improve the ban window as we have with the entire tournament tool. Yesterday was the first day we introduced this interface to the captains and seeing a big red clock ticking down will make even the most stoic person flinch. Due to that reason, I decided to be lenient for the first day as all of you got accustomed to it.

Today however, we won't be as lenient. We will try to give a heads up each time and everyone should now know what this looks like. There are few tips though:

- Open up the dropdown menu and just type the ship you want to ban. The menu will seek the name accordingly.
- It is randomly decided which team starts the ban by the tool itself.
- If you are doing the 2 bans, select both ships and then hit submit. Otherwise you will pass on one of your bans.

As always, just report any problems to the GM's and they will relay them to myself and Veritas. We'll handle it.

you can't report anything to the gms while the window is open which I think is the issue - last time it took a GM telling us after the box had gone - what the other team had actually banned - which was pretty frustrating as we would have liked to have made our ban based on what they banned

Does the team doing the 2 bans (a) get 60 seconds for both, (b) 120 seconds for both, or (c) 60 for each? We were confused yesterday when the window asked to select two bans but only gave us 60 seconds.

The rules
Quote:
For example Team A will take the first ban, Team B will take the second and third ban, and Team A will finish the banning phase with the fourth ban.

Each ban has a time limit of 60 seconds; if no ship is selected within that timeframe the ban is forfeit.

seem to imply that (c) is correct.

I agree the wording is a bit wonky, but (a) is correct.
