Hello everyone and thank you ahead of time for reading this and writing comments should you do such.

I'm here again today because well, I'm horrible at PvP. Yes, I'm utterly pathetic at PvP. So bad as a matter of fact I've considered quiting EVE over the fact. I have battleships, cruisers, battlecruisers and an army of drones at my disposal. I did anyway until yesterday. All in all I suppose it was just a huge noob mistake trying to take on a Claw and three other ships before the enemy battleship finally arrived. The point is, how can I have all this weaponry and its so useless against everyone I try to fight. I have issues even fighting one on one. I either miss or hit and do almost no damage. Not to mention theres no way out of a Web or a Scrambler that I'm aware of now. Everything seems to be able to get too close to hit too fast and I love using lasers, sadly it looks like a waste of time because the range on them is so large if anything is within 30km of me I can't hit it at all.

So, is there a way to multi tank effectively? How do I prevent enemies from getting so close and if they do get that close how can I just stomp them realtively fast? I'm at a loss, it makes me look bad and 5 deaths later I doubt any corps, even the Brave Noobs would take me now. Please help.

Looking at your losses you seem to be using PVE fits for pvp.

You're amarr it seems.. If you want to do pvp i would recommend using the tormentor > Coercer/dragoon/ > navy aug > Harbinger

Don't solo pvp in a battleship if you don't know what you're doing. Also stop trying to pvp in high sec.. Most of the guys fighting you will stack things so heavily in their favor that you don't have a chance no matter what you do.

listen to Garviel Tarrant. Right now with low skills faction ships should not be something you pvp in until your skills match your isk. Unlike almost every other MMO on the market expensive/shiny does not equal win in EVE. It just means your going to loose more isk when you die.
Buy some tormentors or executioners, join a fw corp or brave noobies where you can get some guidance on proper pvp fittings, using d-scan effectively, learn to use your tactical overview, ect. When you can consistantly pull off wins feel free to try some expensive ships. TBH I fly them just for the adrenaline dump of risking the isk. Since the t1 buffs there are many good t1 hulls that can match and in some cases beat some of the faction ships.

One tip I give my new guys is to fit a fast frigate, and roam the customs offices once they detect a hauler is active in the system. Quite often these guys do PI and you can kill them solo when they make the rounds. With some luck and planning you can catch them after their pickup, netting you some potentially valuable goods. Sure, you are going to lose solo against that Black Rebel Rifter Club dude or that Faction Warfare guy. But that's why you need friends! You and another guy in a T1 fitted ship will beat the T2 solo-player.

fly with friends and be sure to exploit every weakness. If you are fighting a group of baddies in a frigate, MWD to a warp off point to seperate the faster (weaker) ships aswell as having better tracking.

shove some NPC resists or random noobish stuff on your profile.

having a poor killboard is actually good, smarter people might see that you are a poor pilot and might underestimate you.

You need a lot of experience.

PvP in eve it is not classical pvp, who win determines before battle. STATS determines who win and who lose. Knowledge about enemy STATS and enemy NUMBERS (health, speed, agility, health regen, shot range) can save you from losing your gear.

Try to FW farming, you learn how to smell how large hostile blob/camp.

Go to test server and lose thousands ships, this give you knowledge about combat mechanic.

And also pvp in 0.0 much easy than in losec/hisec, because of less number of OGB and another kinds of micro-transacted favors.

You should join RVB or get in on FW. A lot of places will give you cheap frigates to go out and PVP in if you really want to do it.

Other than that, watch some of the videos that people make, and watch what they do, and try to dissect the fights to see how they fought that fight the way they did.

Just start a new topic in an appropriate section on the forums that makes a call to arms to all the people that are bad at PvP, and we can all start a new small corp and blow each other up in cheap frigs for a few month.

either:

* We all get better, or
* we keep laughing so hard we don't actually even care.

Win-win ether way.

I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.

because this game is built to advantage the 6 year old character over everyone else. As far as I can tell its impossible for a new character to have any chance at pvp because everyone else is just so much better than us. Or in other words Tech 2 weapons will beat anything so don't even try.

But also you can't really multi tank in this game, its either shields or armour is your main defence, since your Amarr its armour. For range the best way is afterburners and the like but face it the other guy will probadly have a MWD and be faster than you. The only way to get out of webs and scramblers is to get out of their range, but if the enemy is coming towards you that really isn't an option. Also try to improve your tracking skills to improve your hit rate. But also laser require different crystals that are effective at different ranges so you'll need to look up on them.

Bottom line is EVE is about character skills and everyone else has better ones.

1. Check my character age
2. Check my killboard
3. Beat yourself senseless for not just being young and bad at PvP, but being bad at PvP and trying to convince young pilots that it is futile

EvE is amazing because the youngest player can make a huge difference in a small-gang fleet, can take down the oldest player, etc in the right circumstances.

I see these threads all the time about how people 'suck' or the game is biased towards older players etc etc etc..

EVE Online is an MMO (M-MULTIPLAYER-O)

You may lack the skills to fight 1v1 but a 1 day old character in a gang of 3-4 can be very useful in tackling/baiting etc.
Go out there and while your skilling up, find friends, interact with people, join FW,RvB or EveUni and learn the game and enjoy speaking to people and learning from them.

I had played this game for 3 days before i moved to 0.0 and found myself flying in drake blobs and being so bored pos bashing.
Now I'm in FW and I'm loving flying frigates/Cruisers/Destroyers and actually learning (sometimes by losing) how to PVP.

My main has been playing eve since the beginning and its only now that Ive learnt to fly manually and took an interest in what ships to fight or avoid.

Have fun and talk is my advice. remember its only a computer game. If you lose a ship it aint going to tell the bank manager to reposess your house or car in real life.

Convo me anytime in game and I dont mind chatting/ sharing fits / experience with anyone.

We were all "NOOBS" once! Big smile

To be good at PvP, you need a plan....

When I was a very young player, I was killing interceptors in cheap, low meta fit tristans, merlins, and rifters (long ago, during a time of very different ship layouts, no small rigs, etc). I did this because I had a plan on how to engage them, and specifically fit to enhance my strengths and negate theirs! To elaborate: Inties were very fast, but fragile. So I fit 2x webs & a scram + tank so I could hold them down long enough to kill them. Later I learned and implemented fits to solo kill vagabonds and hurricanes in frigates, by negating their dps by orbiting closely, using a nos to counter their neut, killing their drones immediately upon tackle, and then slowly dwindling them away. It took time, and losses before successfully implementing them. Last year, about this time, I got a big kick using a helios to solo assault frigates, destroyers, and sabres. I would hold them in place with scram and one or two webs, neutralize their dps with a track or two, and slowly kill them in what is generally considered a non-combat ship.

If you just fit up a ship, jump through a gate, and expect to find a bunch of engagements to win, your sadly not-understanding the beauty of this game. It's not about big ships and tons of skill points. It's about understanding the game mechanics, understanding your ship's strengths and weaknesses, and importantly, understanding what you can successfully engage and how to successfully engage that makes you an excellent PvPer. This is why a new player can beat an older player. It is not the skillpoint advantage older players generally have to enables them to win in solo combat, it is the experiences they've had that often gives them the edge.

Add to this the fact this is an MMO, meaning you are more likely to find a one vs many situation than a solo situation (which you can still prevail if you understand how to engage).

Sorry you are having troubles in PvP'ing, but keep at it, and you'll probably gain some quality experiences that keep you addicted to EvE!
