Ive seen PvP corps that have fanboy threads where they are told how wonderful they are constantly in the chance of getting in. R&Ks being one of them

See it as practice for your professional life. If you can manage to sum up what motivates you and makes you different than the other candidates in under 3 pages, maybe even one page, and write it so that it doesn't make the HR of the Corp fall asleep whilst reading, then you have a chance. Or just join another corp that doesn't care.

As far as the guys that ask for a 500m plus security deposit, that one is legit. It is to prevent their enemies in Fountain from sending waves of spies in. 500m deposit to join Goonswarm is a small price to pay for the benefits you get.

Most corps require you to fill out some form of application, especially ones that PVP or do advanced industry. Most of it is just to see what your general knowledge base is in their area of empahasis. Usually you are also required to provide an API, eveboard link and a killboard public or private.
That being said a 3 page essay would turn away most people so it might be a polite way of them saying no to an applicant.

Serenity Prime requires that you write at least a five page review of the latest My Little Pony episode whilst also going into detail about how it relates to the human condition and what we can learn from it.

Winds of Dawn, however, requires that you write two pages in 25 point comic sans ms about why you love reading erotic fanfiction over Teamspeak.
