I don't see ORE producing front line combat ships, with it's focus on industry. Rather I see them fielding ships with industrial utility and built sturdy enough for combat use.

They already have one, it's called a Procurer (and it's tech 2 variant) 40k+ EHP and a rack of 5 drones isn't anything to laugh at.

So the Venture is just a figment of my imagination?

If it goes bigger it needs to lose the warp strength bonus.

Why's that, without it it almost kills the role of this ship.

Pretty much the only way to kill a venture is multiple warp disruptors, bubbles or to blap it (which is how you usually kill a venture). If you have a cruiser sized hull, which will have more EHP, you wont be able to blap it, making it near-impossible to kill.

There are plenty of other ships like this, the Bustard and the other factions transport ships all have +2 warp core str and can fit a pretty big tank, as any ship you stick 2x Warp Core stab's on.

Bubbles are the counter to +warp str, and a bigger ship even more so as it would have a slower speed and slower align time.

3: ice mining bonuses (mines shards not blocks (shard ss 100m3 with 10% of normal ice block items)

roll bonus (5000m3 ore hold, 100% mine amount bonus, harvester range bonus)
4: gass bonus only
5: mining bonus only
6: ice mining bonus

3 T2 hulls
T2 bonus (100% to harvest amount, range bonus)
roll bonus (non targeted interdiction immunity, 3500m3 ore hold) (no warp core strength bonus)

9 Variants might be a little over the top :P There is not even that many barges.

i said 9 so that the T1 line had 2 flavors for each mining bracket
and 1 advanced variant for each mining bracket

That portion of my post was more directed to the question of why I thought ORE needed combat ships, and why I thought hull tanking would be a good idea for them. The Venture is unique for ORE, which is why I agree that there is plenty of room on the Mining Frigate skill for some more hulls. I just don't think that role should be combat or security.

I would not see ORE fielding frigate sized security ships, as small light ships are generally meant for assault. ORE already has a firm grounding in using drones, and would be more likely to focus on them for defense against frigate sized threats than to design a security vessel to counter interceptors and the like.

The Procurer is more in line for what I see ORE using as a combat doctrine. Combat is possible, but clearly an afterthought. Something a bit beefier would be good for staying power while covering the fleet.
