It is a fashion statement. It says "Look I got it and I can afford to loose it" Cool

So here I am bored on my phone thinking what to do.
Ahhhh I know. Type in Google ( The most expensive ship lost in eve online).

Then I see the revenant ship lost -> The loss of the ship is estimated to be somewhere between 280B and 330B ISK, which equates to around $8,000+ in US dollars.

hollemac I say!!! Shocked

What the hell???

Seriously tell me what is the point to own such a rare ship
And bring it to battle, which you risk loosing it???

If I owned that ship I would take it out once a month to look at it and say wow
Then store it! Just to say hey look what I have haha. However to lose it in battle.
I would lose months of sleep and maybe retire eve all together.

I really wonder how this guy feels at this point?
And is he still playing eve online?

Following that logic, people only would go to cheap hookers. What a sad world would that be?

What's the point of a ship that you never use?

Everyones right.

1) its a pixel ship, pretty good in combat. Why own it if not going to use

2) its the most expensive/ rare ship in the game why risk it in combat when there are equally powerful ships that dont look luke a turd that u can use

The only thing that makes the difference between 1 and 2 is the pilot.

1) whats the risk
2) whats its isk value to him. How much does he have. How much does he earn.
3) how much of a thrill does he get from flying it

Every person here is going to value 1, 2, 3 differently so arguing about how ur 2 is more important than someones 3 is pointless.

Dude so lets say you bought a baseball that is signed by
Babe Ruth which only 2 existed in the world and paid
Lots of $$$$ do honestly think you will go play baseball with it
Because it's used to play or would you store it behind glass
And look at it once in awhile to say " hey I own a ball that babe Ruth signed"
That's it!

Difference here is:

1) He didn't pay real money for it - he paid space pixel money for a space pixel ship.
2) The EVE ship has no collectors value on a broad market, nor any way to convert it back to real $$.
3) Just because you can *spend* that much real money on a ship does not make it *worth* that much.

That doesn't quite make any sense. If trading baseballs became illegal over night the ball does not lose any value just because you can no longer sell it. And how about another real wold example. Say i find a stash of drugs worth 50 million (that i did not pay any real money for), legally i cannot sell it , or even have it... but i sure as **** aint gonna give it away or leave it there. I'm gonna try to sell it illegally.

edit and why the hell is coc-aine filtered??!

4) You can build\buy\steal a new one.
5) Eve isn't real life so stop comparing them.

Same could be said about expensive clones. Its a weird game. Where everything is a numbers game, losing a very expensive ship makes no sense numerically or statistically.

But I bet it was fun. Hopefully lots of alcohol was consumed.

There's one simple truth: no matter what the real-life cost of that Revenant was, it is forever irrelevant because ingame assets cannot be (legally) transformed back into IRL cash. PLEX is about the closest you get but in the end, your actual money will never leave Eve. So at some point you think enough is enough and owning X is no longer a goal, and it has to die in a glorious explosion. To bad for the pilots involved this particular ship met it's end through more nefarious means then just open combat, but then again it happened that way because, well... welcome to Eve! Lol

In terms of %age of total wealth lost this loss probably doesn't feature in the top 1000.

In terms of time spent to acquire this loss probably doesn't feature in the top 1000.

When you think about things relatively things like this probably occur fairly frequently, just not on the same scale. That said it is the sign of an internet spaceship baller to take such a rare ship into combat and for that I commend the pilot. I think its sad when all the limited ship never see combat.

This thread is awful.

But go on, the Revenant truly is an "excellent ship for battles" and I am sure "his corp and/or alliance members paid for most of it" because it "makes [them] win most of the fights [they] get into". The fact that its loss can make even an unusually mild-mannered leader like Grath Telkin rage and the lack of any PL intervention in Fountain while their ally TEST has been bleeding sov goes to show that this Revenant was the secret behind their previous success. If they can't acquire a new one soon (which will take a few weeks of alliance ratting/mining ops and they are super busy because of the Alliance Tournament atm) they might actually end up losing their revenance in the 0.0 metagame. RIP Pandemic Legion.

If Revenants where easy to get im sure every capital alliance would use them and not the usuals you see flying around.

FYI Re Design the REVENANT it looks like a turd.

There's just no escaping that observation. It really needs to be redesigned. Maybe to look more like a dead, dessicated mouse instead of a big, steaming turd.

Watch this space.  New exciting signature in development.
