Blinking Stars

Can you imagine how fantastic would it be if the stars we see on the eve's galaxy blinked just like the real life ones? All those flashy dots shining in a magical rhythm in the background of your ship.

It isnt hard to implement, and would add a more realistic/immersive tone to the atmosphere.

Stars "twinkle" because you're seeing them through the atmosphere. They don't twinkle when observed from space.

Well, there is no sound in space. Would you like to play eve muted?
What I want is a more dynamicaly complex background to look while I m travelling, instead of just watching the same static portrait.

Then get a Netflix subscription.

Also, nice backpedaling on that 'realism' argument. You might want to edit it out of your post, too.

it's in the eve lore. The sound is simulated into your clones senses with the pod/ship interface

Eve has sounds?

It could simulate star twinkle, so my clone feels like he is in a planet. :)

There are a lot of other things that should be possible to simulate instead of twinkle stars... like those exotic dancers in your cargo.

That would be quite a good implementation aswell.

Eve has sounds?

currently, only 50% of the time you start it :)

They did in the past, I think. I never paid much attention to it though. There are already too many other blinking pixels.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

Interesting. Do you know which version was it?

It was before they introduced all the new backgrounds. The stars were more sparkly back then.

The old twinkling star effects were cool and should come back I think.

With that being said, I would also like to see 2 other background varieties as well.

1. Comets
all different shades of comets, some long, some short, some bright, some barely there wisps.
Im not sure how you would implement this on the grid but it would be neat.

It wouldn't be an actual celestial you would be able to warp too. Just a random scarcely occurring background object that everyone in the system would be able to see for like a day or so.

2. distant battles
you could relate this to actual fleet engagements like in 0.0. You could even kind of compass the direction of where the battle is taking place. That would be some tricky coding though. The visuals would be like a bunch of bloops of light going off. You can see it but you cant hear it type of thing. ***** You could have a big light bloop when a pos goes up

Same thing with highsec mission hubs. There would a much more downplayed version of it. Maybe a couple light bloops here and there, but it would occur more often

Edit*****
Oh crap, I just thought about this.

Stars don't blink "in real life" unless they're pulsars, and if local stars in EVE became pulsars you really wouldn't want to watch them "blink" unless you were a jump or two away.

EVE has sound in order to help prevent pilots from going more insane than they already are. IIRC it's part of the lore that sounds that otherwise don't exist are generated in order to preserve the mental health of pilots who expect to hear sounds as a function of biological evolution.

Who, or what, ever said that your clone has ever been anywhere near a planet in its life? Or my clone for that matter, or the next guy's.

Yeah, which really sucks. Especially since the half of the time the audio engine doesn't start it's usually the half of the time I want to listen to the in-game audio. Ugh

You might as well include oort clouds, kuiper belts, and a-typical expanses such as out and out nebulae, blue giants with no local planets, binary star systems, the odd trinary star system, quasars, pulsars (and a need to not be anywhere in the direction of those pulses of hard radiation), and so on. They'd definitely help liven EVE up! Cool
