Smart bombs with the saftey on?

I may try this tonight just to see what happens. But if anyone else has already done the research it will save me some time.
So here is the question.
What happens when you try to engage a smart bomb in hi sec, if your safety is on?
Will it work no matter what and if some one is hit will you be OMGWTFBBQ?
Or will it not fire?
Or will it only fire if no player is within the range of the blast?
If the last answer is correct it would make using Smartbombs in hi sec useful again but would really not be a good thing as it would thwart cloaking.

Any thoughts. I did a quick search but didn't find anything with safety and smartbombs in the forums.

Here's an idea, CCP: Make smartbombs smart and only have them affect targets that are valid with the current safety setting.

Anecdote (does not equal 'data'): My main was ferrying me a disco BS through HS, hovered the cursor over the bombs, and got a red-rim around the weapon - weapon disabled. My main has safetys fully 'on.'

OP: It does nothing, will not fire. I think your little green safety icon blinks a bit. I assume it does the same if you are set on yellow as it would be considered a criminal act, so you'd need to be set to red to fire it. A newbie alt, a cheap frig and a small smartbomb should let you play to your heart's content.

EDIT: Oh, and ignore them. If you use the word "cloak" in a thread they come running to scream at you.

Here's the thing, OP.

If it has a possibility to get you killed by doing it, green safeties won't let you do it. You could easily have just fit one up on something cheap and tried it yourself, which is what you should do with any kind of safety question. If it was a dangerous act, it just won't do anything, so no harm done.

It won't fire. If I recall right, you have to turn them to red to even fire one in highsec.

Thanks for the comment but i would add that had you read the post completely you would know that i planned to do just that when i can get on later. Doesn't make the question invalid.
