Well the advice i can give you is the one that is always considered a RULE in eve...

NEVER go afk in space in lowsec system... Along that never try to do PVP with a PVE/Ratting ship.. You will die in a fire..

If you cant afford a ship/mod that you want... That generaly means you are not yet skilled to use it or fly it well..

Trust me, plexing for isk is a good way to fund your game but dont buy overpriced ships as you cant use their potential..
When you can earn enought isk per month to buy a plex and a ship you want, than you are good to go...

CN raven is a ship that requires decent ammount of skillpoints to be used propertly, such as core capacitor skills, shield ressistances and most importantly torp/cruises...

For the same ammount of skillpoints and ISK i would suggest you go an get a tengu...

You can fit it to be exploration ship, to be uncatchable by bubbles, cloaky and all that cool stuff..
It requires like a month of intesive training, but can yield muuuuuch better results than CN raven...

lower tier T2/T3 ships are generaly better than higher tier T1..

If you need any good advices for ratting and missioning in high

If you're autopiloting across a highsec-lowsec gate, the AP will take you through without any box needing to be clicked. No idea if the warning box shows up but you jump anyway or if it doesn't show up at all.

Nope it actually holds you on gate with the box up and doesnt jump you until you click the box.

Can anyone who flies battleships (or bigger) tell me what role they play, how much time they needed to be good enough to fly them and what they enjoy about flying those ships? Any tips on how to get to the stage where you can pilot one and be an asset?

Battleships have their role to play, but the thing people are pointing out is there is no swiss army knife in EvE, and the higher you get up the tree, the more specific to role the ships get - you can bring a frigate to any battle and still be useful, but you bring a capital Ship without the right support to a cruiser fight, it is a guaranteed loss.

The battleships general role is a big, tough, ponderous damage-dealer, and at that, it is very good. It is faster than a capital, so has reasonable mobility, and can react to a situation changing. It can take a reasonable amount of prolonged punishment, but it is far slower and less mobile than a cruiser or battlecruiser, and can be easily pinned down by smaller opponents who can get under its large weapons and render it ineffectual. It is massively reliant on its support - in PvP you wont take battleships into a fight without a raft of frigate and cruiser support to deal with smaller opponents and to provide the battlefield functions other than damage-dealing, while in PvE you wont want to be taking one in without the correct set-up to deal with the exprected opposition.

Don't throw away your goal of flying battleships, but learn to appreciate the smaller ships for what they can do that battleship cannot (I fly battleships a good 50% of my time, but I still relish the times I can jump in a heavy assault cruiser or destroyer, and just zip around the battlefield with a far more nimble, brawling ship), and through that, you'll learn to appreciate the battleships strengths and purposes, and when you can and cannot use it.

Susan, your experience was almost word for word identical to what happened to me just yesterday. I returned from a 7 year hiatus and bought some ISK with PLEX and then spent it on a battleship which I lost on my way back to base after fitting everything on it. Lost about 250mil (had insurance at least). You seemed to take the loss a lot better than I did, it spoiled my whole day and I went to sleep still thinking about that lost battleship. :(

I'm sticking to my cruiser for now and will never use autopilot again.

No - it takes you straight through (unless it's been changed recently).

That's how I made my first unintentional trip through lowsec as a newbie.

Susan, you have received all of the advice you can on the subject of your loss.
Reading through the posts it sounded as though you are looking for more diversity.
Have you tried exploration? It takes a bit of patience at first but it can be a very rewarding activity. Plus it will help you learn moving around New Eden, understanding low sec better.
Just a thought.
