"fly safe" is a very common valediction within the EvE community. We are all aware that the only "safe" is docked away in an empire station which has nothing to do with "fly"ing, or not playing; relative to this game, "fly safe" is a cheep platitude verging on malapropism and should ubiquitously be dropped. For those who wish to express a role playish cordiality in chat channels that better reflects the character of the game at large, I suggest "flyer beware".

That's a bit too absolute to be considered true.

Plenty of people say "fly dangerous" or say "take care" or "o/" or "o7".

Maybe you should get out of a single system a bit more and see the 'verse as it were.

Fly safe isn't to demand that we only fly in ways that would be safe. It's a warning. Fly safe is a way to remind them that they should keep their ship's safety in mind as they fly. To always be on the look out.

Fly Dangerous as a variation simply meaning to fly recklessly and have fun shooting things.

It's a state of mind, not a state of being. We all know we're never safe undocked...

Cool story bro.

Fly safe.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

Ease up, dude.

It's just something to say that's short and easy to type.

Do you actually mean it when you say 'have a nice day' to everyone you run into? Of course not. It must be pedantic day here in the forum from the threads I'm seeing posted.

They're not telling you to "be safe", they're saying "fly safe", which inherently dismisses docking. You're obviously not following directions and disobeying orders if you dock up in empire when told to fly safe. Get with the program man!

The terms "very common", "should", and "suggest" are qualitative terms, not quantitative, and, as such, are not used to define an absolute.

I've seen and used these valedictions before.

Your suggestion is flawed..as you can't beware from what you can't see or expect. Like a smart bombing maelstrom on inbound gate.

To achieve complete safety, in any part of New Eden, one must remain logged off. CCP has thoughtfully provided a very special button to achieve this strategy, to LOG OFF SAFELY. Hardly a coincidence, and you may now sleep soundly at night. Roll

I usually tell people to fly reckless... and am sometimes told to 'fly wreckless', which also gets the point across.

I don't always undock, but when I do... no wait, I acutally never undock.
