Fighting Titan Pilot Ennui

During last month’s Houston EVE Meetup, the conversation somehow moved to Titans and how these monstrous machines of devastation and destruction have turned into nothing more than bridge abutments. Several of us know titan pilots that have pretty much stopped playing, having achieved their ultimate goal and finding it boring. Talk turned towards ways to let Titan pilots have more fun, and reinvigorate the EVE experience for them.

Taking the recent big fights that have been initiated by accidental titan jumps where the pilot missed the bridge button into our ruminations over beer and fajitas, we came up with a suggestion:

At the end of the Titan bridge cycle, or whenever the cyno at the destination goes out, the Titan itself will be sucked through the bridge portal to the destination as well.

That’s it. Pretty simple. We think that putting Titans back into action whenever they bridge a fleet somewhere would make things a lot more interesting for the Titan pilots that find themselves just sitting near a pos shield waiting for the next transitting fleet to warp up and ask for a bridge.

What do y’all think?

So, you're a bounty hunter. No, that ain't it at all. Then what are you? I'm a bounty hunter.

It certainly increases the amount of commitment needed for a fight.

It might be fun, but quite possibly will need tweaking to iron out details moving forward.

Too many tears will be caused. Will never happen, however cool it may be.

This certainly puts a little bit of the risk back into moving a large fleet over a large distance. Either the fleet will make the trip there by gates or the titan will end up on the field. Cyno's will be something to warp to not away from. It also becomes more impoirtant to have a survivable cyno ship since you'll want to make sure the entire fleet gets bridged in before the cyno ship goes down and the titan jumps to it.

We certainly tried to poke holes in this, but all of the downsides of it seemed like positive changes. What did we miss?

Sure.

Prevent sub caps from shooting supers... kind of like how supers cant shoot frigates....

Give us tons of new capital hulls to actually play with, that can actually gank sub cap formations and not be forced to spider-tank blob to hell and back with sentry-drone slow-cats...

Watch the Capital fun begin again.

No problem.

Eve is about Capital ships, WiS, Boobs, PI and Isk!

You missed the part where fleets will bridge into neighbouring systems instead, at which point the titan will safe up, cloak, cap up and jump back out.

The change wouldn't put more titans on field, it'd just give you more time to run.

the entire enemy support fleet is dead except for one interdictor a titan could easily finish off with drones  - Commander Ted

What we really need to do it find a way to destroy that "to valuble to lose" mentality. If I have a ship, im going to ******* use it in a fight, regardless of how shiny it is. The only exception for me is the limited edition ships that are irreplaceable.

This actually isn't bad. This would allow for more fleet engagements on gates and such as the fleet that bridged now has to travel to the Destination system. It basically puts back in the choke points involved in moving a fleet giving the opportunity for more actual fights. Instead of "Oh **** Cyno, Warp Warp Warp!".

Also during the time where the Titan is trying to safe up, the Titan is on field and vulnerable. It would be possible to watch the map for Cynos and potentially catch the Titan before it can get safe. Unlikely but possible. Plus it means more jump fuel consumed anyway which is at least an additional cost to operating this way.
