[Suggestion] Improvements to ship and cargo scanners

Ship and cargo scanner modules deserve some love. Here are a few suggestions to improve them.

Usability Upgrades
  • Organise results of cargo scanner by market category e.g. Ammo & Charges, Blueprints, Drones, etc...
  • Allow filtering and searching of cargo scan window just like the unified inventory window.

  • Organise results of ship scanner by Slot type (High / Medium / Low / Rig / Sub System).
  • Results of ship scanner should be displayed as "Heat Sink II x 3" like cargo scanner results instead of "Heat Sink II, Heat Sink II, Heat Sink II".

  • Balance Changes
  • Significantly reduce optimal range of both ship scanner and cargo scanner modules.
  • Introduce new skill(s) to improve the range of scanner modules and the accuracy of their results. (Or tack these effects onto existing skills).
  • Change the cargo scanner so that it does not get a 100% accurate scan every time. Make it like the ship scanner.
  • Enable these modules to auto-repeat.
  • Make it so that every scan cycle builds up the results such that after 5-10 (skill dependent) scan cycles you have a 100% accurate result.

  • Controversy Time
Scanning someone else's ship is always a hostile action or a precursor to a hostile action. Should it be changed to incur a suspect tag?

Why? Try to be objective, not just rude. Justify your opinions or don't bother posting them.

How about we start with you justifying yours.

You don't want to get scanned, you don't want to get ganked.

Go use a blockade runner or stop whining.

You're right! I don't want to get scanned or ganked, but that doesn't make me a carebear. Nobody wants to get scanned or ganked.

I simply think all types of scanner modules should be in line with one another in terms of performance. I suggested a nerf to cargo scanners instead of a buff to ship scanners because "buff my stuff" posts generally get ignored.

Frankly I would prefer it if ship scanners simply became "1 hit, 1 kill" so to speak, but that is unlikely to happen so I didn't mention it in the OP.

You say I am whining. I say you are a hypocrite. Thanks for the forum bumps though; always appreciated Big smile

Forum bumps hardly make a difference if they are made within the hour of your previous post, the thread doesn't even go down 5 places. While I agree ship scanners should be more accurate I prefer suicide ganking stay a valid profession.

Is this a private convo or can I join in?

Ship scanners are fine and looking in your goody bag is not a crime, taking from it is, so there should be absolutely no repercussions from doing it. I don't like gankers as its not my play style but it still seems logical this way.

The only thing I don't like about ship scanners is their scans inconsistency - would like to see them install scripts where you can trade off scan speed for # of items that will show up in the scan or that repeated scans don't remove items from the list......... So annoying (I thought it said it had 7 guns, wait 4?, no 5, huuuuh?!?!.... actually has 8 :P)

The lists format you get currently is fine because if you PVP or gank regularly, you know what the items are and their value and if you don't... learn cause its part of your job! LOL
