Many times gangs go to roam through 0.0 space and see system after system of docked up or pos'd up inhabitants. Why does this happen? Well, fortunately for the inhabitants many have very good intel systems that can report roaming gangs before they ever reach major hubs.

As roaming gangs progress, system after system, there is not much incentive for locals to engage in a fight; if you dock up the roamers will get bored and move on to a new system hoping to catch someone not paying attention. An increased incentive to rid roaming gangs of the inhabitants money making systems is necessary.

One idea I had is to allow roaming gangs to temporarily affect individual system's upgrades. If renters and other bears love to make money in their system, and not fight, then why not be punished for allowing roaming gangs to take control of individual systems for certain amounts of time? Most major bearing systems are upgraded to provide better ores, better ratting, and better anoms. These upgrades should be vulnerable to attack by roaming gangs. Roaming gangs should be able to temporarily reduce the effectiveness of these upgrades for a certain amount of time.

For instance, if a system is upgraded to lvl 5 for anoms, and is filled with ratters making isk out of there regularly it can be quite profitable. If a roaming gang comes in an everyone docks up to wait them out after a short amount of time the gang leaves and ratting continues. That gang should be able to attack the upgrades for that system and reduce them to a temporary lower grade for a certain time. Whether it be an hour, or two, or until the upgrade has been repaired, or until downtime is up for debate.

Just wanted to bounce this proposition off a few thousand other nerd brains.

Structure grind for roamers? NO thanks.

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.

I'm not talking about an IHUB here. Why would you not want something to help convince other people to come out and fight?

You are talking about iHub upgrades. But you already can shoot station services to lure its inhabitants out. Or you could try to shoot technetium PoS...

You do know tech is near worthless now, right?

Nevertheless, you're right about one thing. The last thing I want to do when I'm roaming is go shoot another bloody structure.

As an aside, if you really do want to shoot structures, why not try to convince CCP to slash the EHP of pocos?

I fully support there should be more "small gang" oriented mechanics in the game:

I had a corpmate once suggest Player Created Incursions: The general idea is to deploy a module that creates incrusion-like effects in the system for an extended period of time. The inhabitants must respond before the incursion starts, or suffer with lower NPC bounties, lower ship resists, etc...

I once proposed a Moon Mining Deflector: While the idea needs some updating, it was essentially a module you anchor at a hostile POS, which steals a portion of the moongoo harvested every POS cycle. This was meant to be an easy to deploy, easy to destroy module the required people to pay some attention to their POS's.

This is a link to the old "farms and fields" discussion on the old forums. It has some good ideas to usurp too.

I agree with you in principle: There is very little incentive for players to come out and fight. Hell, some alliances actually kick members that engage in PvP because they don't want to attract more PvP into the area. Frankly, there needs to be more small-gang mechanics that encourage people to fly in space and blow things up!

p.s. If you introduce new strucutres, keep them small scale (5k -100k EHP). It doesn't take much to "escalate" a fight. And frankly, the LAST thing this game needs is more structures with 1m+ EHP.

This is more along the lines of what I was thinking. I was just trying to refrain from pulling random numbers and figures out of my butt. Something that a gang can reinforce to detract the value that system upgrades provide for a short amount of time. I was never advocating a 1mil+ hp structure grind, but some people like to troll....
