New Launcher Forces Poor Security

The new launcher (at least the Mac client) doesn't allow PASTE into the password field.

This caters only to two types of users:

1. Users dumb enough to be able to use a memorable password (don't paste the XKCD comic)
2. Users dumb enough to reuse passwords and thus have a difficult password memorized

Please, CCP - connect the PASTE macro to the password form.

I'm not understanding, why is it dumb to have a regular style password that one can remember?
Example: tgimcd1819

Why would that be a bad idea?

Thanks.

Just because you can't memorize various 12 character alphanumeric passwords doesn't mean the rest of us can't.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

TBH 12 is not a lot by today's computing standards. I have 32 chars passwords including digits, punctuation and so on for most of what I do.

I don't reuse passwords. And Windows makes you type in your password at login anyway...and mine is pretty damn long (they claim it'll take about 30 years of brute force hacking to crack it).

The trick with passwords is making them mean something that only you know. Time, location, even the feel. You'll always remember the password, and others will have no idea of it, as they don't share the same memories (and even if you grow old and get dementia or Alzheimer's, long term memory isn't affected).

That is how you remember even numerous l-o-n-g passwords to type manually.

I am not sure what you are getting at... You want people to be in the habit of using "strong" alphanumeric passwords, but you want the purpose to be defeated by having that pass stored in plain text in multiple areas that may or may not be secure?

Also, these threads are getting old, and I don't even like the launcher...

X:\Program Files\CCP\bin\exefile.exe -(or)-
X:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\bin\exefile.exe

Right click > Send to desktop (Create Shortcut.)
Run that.
That is all you need to do.

Speak for yourself, 17 digit alphanumeric password here, that's not on a post-it note stuck under my keyboard (I've seen this in various places I've worked), and would be complete gibberish to anyone other than me.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

So you point the windows environment software to [Eve Online package]/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/CCP/bin/exefile?

Mac users correct me where I am wrong, as I want to have a cookie-cutter response to be rid of this 'launcher required to play the game' myth.

I will have to refresh my memory on dealing in *nix systems when I get home.

Remember to randomize the character mapping first, you never know is someone is looking you over the shoulder when you type the password.
