Ideas for how to improve the Directional Scanner (DSCAN)

If you have a specific idea for how to improve the D-Scanner, please post it here. Also try to label it as a small, short term tweak or a big, long term change. Also feel free to link any old threads I didn't find in my 30 second search:

  • Small tweak - give us tabs on the Dscan just like overview tabs.
  • each tab can have a different range, angle, OV profile and tracking camera ticked/unticked

  • Big change - UI overhaul like for the probe scanning interface. "Make Dscan pretty".
  • Casual Incursion runner & Faction Warfare grunt, ex-Wormholer, ex-Nullbear.

this all day or atleast let us use both for scanning long and short range stuff 0.000015 au away is just as much of a pain to be puttin in as 1500000 km

Preset ranges (short/medium/long), a visible cone showing scan radius and ship type and name displayed as "??" in the result for long-range scans.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

A visible cone in "normal" view so you can see just where the hell you are looking. When you get to 15 degrees and below it can get tricky.

EDIT: Yes, I know you can see the cone in F11 but come on, it'd be a nice QoL fix.

Disable the scan button while it can't be used (cool-down) or at least somehow show the cool-down timer.

There could be two text fields. One with the range in AUs the other in kms. This would allow setting the range in both AUs and kms so we could choose which to use depending on the situation.

Or there could be some swich which would allow us to change wheter to set the range in AUs kms.

Why not have the range units Auto detect?

Perhaps if you enter a value less than 15 it assumes AU. If you enter anything over 15 it assumes km. The max range is only 14.35 AU so the only downside is that the D-scanner would not work below 15km. This doesn't jump out as an issue to me because anything at that range will be basically right next to your ship. If you REALLY wanted to see it on D-scan you could just put 20km in.

I guess the tool and thus underlying code is very old for this so changes may be difficult. In any case to make the above work well it should be able to handle decimals such as 0.1 / 0.01 as apposed to using 15,000,000 / 1,500,000.

I was going to suggest the idea mentioned above where in addition to this improvement to manual input there is a drop down menu to simply select an AU distance from a list, perhaps with MAX at the top before the 1-14 AU increments.

I also agree it can be tricky to place a 5 Deg scan just in the right spot but I'm not sure how you improve that without cluttering the screen, maybe angles less than 90 Deg show a simple dashed ring for a few seconds when scanned so it can be adjusted if needed.

i saw this thread after replying in another as i found it searching web not these forums.

i would like to link it here as there are links to some pics and some info and it would make finding the info that much easier once it all gets buried.

maybe it would go well with this thread at any rate.......and i hope that it can indeed be improved upon.
