ESC key / menu not working

After being inactive for a couple months I have come back and patched

However now I can nolonger access the settings menu by pressing ESC

Stuff I've tried -

Uninstalling and reinstalling eve
Deleting all eve settings
Removing all USB devices other than keyboard
Tried ESC in other programs (no problem)
Tried ending every process on my task manager I possibly could except eve

I am on windows XP and did not have this problem prior to Odyssey

Please help, it's especially annoying once I deleted my original pre-odyssey settings. I am stuck in full screen with music on, without any of my custom keys. (and much higher GFX settings than I would like for null/pvp)

Still can't fix this :(
