Noob Wormhold Question

Hey guys,

I know this is a noob question but I've only been playing for like 8 days so I'm still a noob and have come to terms with that.

I have been having a lot of fun learning how the scanner and probe system works and tracking down and jumping into wormholes. As I am reading the forums though I keep seeing people talk about Static holes and living in wormholes and things like that so I guess my question is What is a Static wormhole?

I've tried looking it up online to do research and I have found some exploration sites that tell what is in each wormhole but nothing about what it means to be a static wormhole.

Also for people who live in wormholes, How do you know where the entrance to your wormhole will open up since from what I gather the entrances can pop up in any system?

I've tracked down a few so far that had the name K162 but the sites I have looked at say that is an exit hole.

Anyway if anyone can explain this a bit I would appreciate it. Or better yet provide me with a link to a guide that I can read about it on. I tried looking but couldn't find a good one.

Thanks in advance for anyone that is able to help. I'm having a lot of fun in the game so far and love the whole wormhole idea. Just need to learn more about them.

Go there.

Start from the oldest post and read forward.

Then when you are done you may end up doing what i did. Get the bug, scrape toegether all the isk you have, and at 5months into the game, move solo into a C1. then move up from there.

A static wormhole refers to the wormhole(s) that any given w-system will have. They always lead to the same class of space, but not always to the same location. When the static closes due to time or mass of ships passing through, another static will open, again leading to the same class of space.

For example, I live in a C4 wormhole. My particular WH has a C2 static, so I will always have an exit to a C2 system (although not always the SAME C2 system). C2 WHs have 2 statics, one to w-space, and the other to k-space. So by going through my home static and then scanning the C2 statics down, I always have a route into K-space within 2 jumps of my home hole.

K162 is the "exit" side of a WH that someone else scanned from the other side and then warped to. In my example, the static on my home side is called N766, while on the C2 side it will show as a K162.

Oh okay that makes a lot more sense. Thanks a lot for your response.

Protip:

When you make a forum thread like this. Try calling it "What is a static wormhole?" rather than "Noob question". It helps other new folk find it more easily in the future.
