Just curious why the terms Jewing, Jew the field, and Jew him or her are so prevalent in Eve. My main is in quite a large alliance and these terms are used with total disregard for what they mean and continue to mean. When it comes to people who use them the most I would say people from the UK, the United States and Canada use them the most. I never hear or have heard a German or Continental European use those racist terms either.

If you do use the term, have you ever met a Jew? Do you know what a Jew is?

Dude, they're not used because "**** the jews", they're used because people can get away with racey jargon like that. nobody using it gives two ***** about jews. *******.

There's nothing worse than an EVE player, generally considered to be top of the food chain in the MMO world, that cannot smacktalk with wit and coherency.

The term comes from the Northeast USA where there's a stereotype of Jews being into money and/or greedy with it. In New York a common term for offering somebody less money for an item than for which the seller asks is called "jewing it down".

Back in the 1980s you would be hard pressed to find even Jews offended by this, but since then we have had at least two decades of people making a career out of being offended and a kind of progressive "more progressive than thou" whip with which people can hit each other with then someone trips up and uses a figure of speech that is considered "offensive".


I would say not to use it though. It's incorrect. I know a lot of Jews who do not fit the stereotype. Like calling Native American "indians" for example.

Stereotypes are more damaging to the user than the intended target. If this is common in your large alliance (and I have a suspicion if which one it is because I have seen them do this in the forums) then you are in an alliance full of imbeciles.

The stereotype didn't originate in the US. It goes back to at least medieval times.

But I never hear terms related to the game using Christianity or Christians as the butt of the joke? Nor atheism, Hinduism or any other major faith or belief of disbelief.

Well I wouldn't say things like Geordie shore was a good thing but equally I wouldn't say it was being racist towards black and white knuckle draggers either.

Then why are those things not part, I would argue, the jargon of the game. Spend time in Goon Swarm and you would see that.
