We love shockwaves and recoil Big smile

Ok, now I know that's not that simple in space with the blast but we do have bombs that do kinetic damage, torpedo hitting frigates, capital projectiles flying around. We could ignore the lasers because that's insignificant and not get into solar sailing topic.

Imagine *when* a small ship gets a hit from the massive weapons of a capital ship. Or a battleship bombarded with torpedoes.

Also when a capital shots x-large projectiles there should be a movement of the ship in the opposite direction. Of course, all this based on the mass of ships and properties of the charges.

Maybe this will explain better what I'm thinking: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BB61_USS_Iowa_BB61_broadside_USN.jpg

Why? have you seen the size of a capital and its guns? why in the world would those move it backwards? especially when the ship itself has egines to keep it going.

also, if you want "realism" then no, a small ship hit by large/x-large weapons wouldnt get "knocked around" it would just stop existing upon contact, but that wouldnt be balanced gameplay now would it?

also, the reason why they CANNOT implement this, is it breaks warping mechanics, it means a ship, so long as its firing its guns, does not need a warp-scrambler, because by the game-engine, a ship would be unable to align for warp if weapons fire affected its movement.

You have shown surface ship warfare as an example, but you do realize this is a fluid universe space submarine game right?

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, definitely it's not the same, while the boats have water displacement as resist, in space you have nothing.

Fair enough.

I just threw in an idea that crossed my mind. Went through the list of common proposals and didn't see anything related, maybe just one about momentum. If it's feasible or not in-game, that's CCP part if it gets support from players.

Don't panic, I won't push for it. Big smile

If this were a purely graphical effect applied to particles it would potentially be interesting, but EVE doesn't really have the art assets to really make something like that look nice. Ships moving through actual clouds that you can see shift around them, shockwaves from projectiles, energy transference along the path of hybrid rounds, and vaporization of particles by lasers would all be great, but unless they were optional I could see them raising up the horsepower needed to run the game on the low end.

I just simply do not like the idea as much as the thought. At first, the thought sounds nice but then I think about the hundreds of rounds being fired. If firing guns made a reverse ship movement, ships like the mach using autocannons would just start looking stupid.

It would work ok if guns fired occasionally, but when you have them firing every 3.5 seconds, it could really start to look silly. Then comes the part where you have everyone trying to fire at things in the 6 o'clock possition and using the guns as an extra speed mod.

They jsut fixed nag, lets not have it knocking itself out of range firing its own guns when in siege. Its nice to see dreads not amarr or gallente floating about now.

And like above said....it be abused as a speed boost. I fly away from you or a rat, use my guns as speed boost and you/the rat trying to close range gets that much harder.

For a Machariel I doubt there will be any difference, since the guns are too small compared to the ship size.

While for a Tornado things would be different.

Anyway, it might be a cool effect but, indeed, I think it would break some game mechanics.
