What does it take to pop a pod?

So I was doing a bit of belt ratting in high-sec recently and came across a pod and a retriever wreck. Seems the guy's ship had been destryed by belt rats while he was afk. 15 minutes later the pod was still there and I'm thinking to myself "I wonder if I could destroy the pod before Concord got me". I didn't try - I didn't want to lose the ship I was flying. Can anyone let me know what is the minimum sort of ship it takes to pop a pod that isn't trying to escape? Twisted

Noobship

Seriously a pod sitting still is only 1-2 shots max to pop

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.

you stare at these pods wrong and they pop sometimes.

My newly made alt couldn't pop a pod with ibis(no extra modules fit in addition to the basic setup) before it self-destructed Sad

Sneeze at them and they fall apart! Blink I once managed to get a scrammed pod in structure without killing it. It took half a second of drone agression. Pods might be quick to warp and align but their max velocity is horrid, any turret will eat through them. Any t1 frigate would do.

If it is just sitting there then anything with an alpha over of over 500 should easily pop it before concord shows up... try fitting up some cheap ships and see if you can hit that alpha mark, then go wild all you want.

Just be sure not to be moving while sitting in your optimal and it should all go off fine.

Play EvE how you want to play it and do not let others dictate how you play. Evolve your playstyle to protect yourself from others! Even in "PVE", "PVP" is there, lurking in the shadows.

A single volley with an arty thrasher is always enough.

Even with an alt with just 11 hours of training.

a single volley with an autocannon thrasher will insta pop a pod as well (t2 autocannons and hail, spec level 4)

While everyone is right about how little it takes to pop a pod...I can't help but notice what you said here...

if you shoot a pod sitting in a belt in highsec that doesn't have a suspect flag, you will 99.9% of the time kill the pod, BUT...there is no way to save your ship...if you shoot the pod, your ship WILL die.

We really should do that again sometime, especially now that podmails show implants.

Thanks for the advice. Seems even something as basic as an Atron with 3 blasters should be able to do it. Next time I see a pod just floating there I'll go fit a frigate and see what's in the pod... Twisted

Good luck. But just remember to sit out those criminal timers before you undock a new ship..
