Live Node Remapping?

Fights that aren't preplanned happen on nodes that are not reinforced as currently a reinforce logs off the players so it is done at downtime. From my understanding, other systems can be transferred off of the node to help reduce its load, but still, the fight is not occurring on the super node which severely reduces lag.

Time dilation in EVE slows down the server to a point of 10% (in most severe circumstances) where everything in that system will run at 10% of normal speed to compensate for lag.

Is it not possible to have the supernode mirror a system without its inhabitants, but with all the structures. Essentially, at this point, there would be two identical systems, one with the fight running on the less powerful node, and the other system on the reinforced supernode with no pilots.

Once this stage is accomplished, time dilation takes the factor down to 0%. Time on the server temporarily stops and the players logged on in that solar system are presented with a message something along the lines of "Live Remap in Progress". THIS DOES NOT DISCONNECT THE PLAYERS.

With time stopped, it allows the less powerful server to transfer all of the pilots onto the reinforced super node, with all their current locks, hp, relative positions etc.

Grid then reloads and allows a fixed amount of time for all clients to reload grid (from their perspective, nothing should have changed at all, except reduced lag). Once the allotted time is up, Time Dilation is reduced from 0% and the fight starts again.

The question: Is this possible CCP?

You're not the first to suggest it and it's not currently possible, but there is work to try to implement some kind of "non-destructive live remapping".

the best way to achieve that, and i'm pretty sure (i hope at least) CCP is working on it, would be to make the nodes Virtual machines.

this allow one node to be "stretched" as it is required, example:

up to 5 "low activity" nodes share one blade (empty systems etc...),when suddenly, in one of those node, a BIG fight (2500+ ppl) arise => the node is now spreaded among 2-3-10 nodes (or include now super-nodes ) to keep up with the load.

the trick with this, is that since they are VM, the ressource allocation is dynamic, and does not require said node to restart, hence the ressource allocation as absolutely no impact on what happen on the node, except that the node is able to sustain the workload.

unfortunately, the current code does not allow this, and lot of work is required to make this possible

I love how everyone is super adept at running an MMOs servers. Its easy, you just put your thumb and pull out a plum.
