A good gate camp has eyes on the other side of the gate, sometimes even more than one system out. If they spot a fleet of 50 ships coming into their direction, the campers will flee to a safespot.

That being said, people still try and sometimes you can catch bad campers.

Are you going through the amdonen-ami gate? That gate is always camped. Try going around. The entrance to gademam from tadadan is usually very quiet. Just dont loiter when passing through ami. It is a hotbed of pirates in there. Once you get through say fensi it is a pretty quiet trip to the eve gate. Good luck.

Really? Last time I had a problem with that particular gate was in...2006 and I live(d) over there! Guess I just log on around the right times then - that section of space is usually completely dead for me.

I lived over in that area until fairly recently as well and while I was well aware of the gangs, I noted that they didn't seem to be active at all times. I got through there without encountering a camp on several occasions. In fact I never encountered a camp. But I always check map stats, Dotlan etc. before traveling through areas like that. *shrug*

OP, warp to a celestial (moon or planet, not within 0 or 100) first before you warp to the gate. Hit F11 to open your system map (it's the bottom one) and use it to see which celestial will give you an angle of approach to the gate that might be more unexpected. With a frigate or especially a shuttle, you should be warping off before most targeters can lock you. If there is someone at the gate when you go through., warp around from celestial to celestial a few times, then fly off into space in a random direction to get yourself out of the common warp to ranges just in case someone managed to follow you by seeing where you warped off to and isn't lazy.
Gates going from from hisec to losec are most likely to be camped / have smartbombing going on. Go around to the ways not easy but more likely to get through. As was mentioned, use the ingame map filters to see 'ships destroyed in last hour'.
For a hauler ship / slower ship - cloak + MWD trick.
Have fun! o/

Gate campers are basically miners, aren't they?

Then relish in the thought this indeed gets done. Those camping our gates will be measured up by scouts and a fleet will mobilize to crash their party if we think we can handle the fight. In return, our own camps get hotdropped by a neighbouring pirate corp if we sit still to long. Ah, the ebb and flow of lowsec.Blink

Heck just a few days ago a corpmate ran into this same problem. He got busted in a venture by campers. One other person and I went out for revenge in a cruiser and a battlecruiser. We lost both those as well but at least made a statement. It's eve after all, stuff gets blown up.

There are only three things worth nothing in Eve; ISK; Skill Points and Getting Blown up. Once you learn this, the universe truly sets you free.

Good tips all round.

I got there in the end just took about 5 more jumps to get around, must have hit a common pinch point.

So can tick off eve gate as been to.

Also found out I need to look into mwd's and cloaks :-)

Every day is a learning day lol

All in the name of tourism!

Die hard sightseeer

edit: Eve occupation, tourism mogul sounds cool. Make star systems with sites for exploration and visiting and charge fee to all who go there or pass through/explore. The accumulated fees get awarded to the players of the corp/alliance that hold sov every 6 months. Could be expanded with different themes as well. More reason to fight, hold sov, and passive income :).
Could even built missions around the theme as well. For instance pilots get payed to ferry fictive tourist from site to the other like logistic mission. Checkpoints along the way become busy hubs for pvpers and pirates.

Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first.
