A one man army of at least 20 Skiffs clearing each ice asteroid in less than 4 minutes...if it's allowed then with so many accounts can it even be profitable ?

They need to turn off the "no bombs in hisec" just for one day...just for one hour...Sod it, a fleet of 50 bombers would only need 30seconds...Twisted

And yes allowed, by the looks of things, multiboxer...

Profitable? Convo him, find out, post results here please?

Noob question here. What exactly is multiboxing? I hear this term tossed around, but I don't quite grasp the mechanic. Multiple accounts, I can see that. Can't be cheap.

They use a program to facilitate running multiple clients at the same time.
It was considered OK by GM as long as the program does no automate anything but just replicate a manual action.
what the program does is when you clic or press a key it does it over all the linked account.
so he is probably having all his miners linked together.

and part of why CCP is allowing this is that it would be hard to track legitimate manual interactions vs program assisted one

and that these kind of players inflate the number of subs/plex for them..

p.s.
i talked with people that are just very rich IRL and dont care about paying multiple accounts
and people that would PLex many accounts doing this..
so both are possible

* Sigh *

Yeah this crap is allowed. Half a year ago I might have still cared. Nowadays I just don't care anymore. What?

It's a generic term used for running multiple instances of a game simultaneously. Often, but not necessarily, with something to help them replicate commands across all instances.

The term "box" comes from games that prevent you from running more than one instance (or which simply require so much power that a computer couldn't run more than one instance), so the person would use multiple computers (boxes) to run multiple instances. This usually requires some advanced keyboard setup to be able to control them all. But nowadays most use the term "multiboxing" even for people who run multiple instances on a single computer.

Thanks, all, for the replies. I see how this works now. For those with the time, money and inclination, multiboxing offers some real advantages. Yes, you can do it. Yes, CCP allows it.

Should you do it? I'm of two minds about it. It fits the anything-goes ethos of EVE. OTOH, my own outlook says that this is something I won't do, even if I could.

OF course, it would be a shame - a real shame, now - if someone got a group together and hot-dropped one of those little one-man mining parties. Just sayin'

* psssst *. Can't do hotdrops in highsec.

Anyway - multiboxing ice miners do get ganked. Oh yes. Although I wonder if the new ice belt spawning mechanic works in the miners' favor by forcing them to be more mobile (and therefore less AFK and susceptible to ganking.)
