Imagine if, when you clicked on a locked target to engage, the target's circular icon expanded (with customizable slider for size between a couple inches to 4 or 5, whatever works) and switched to a live feed close up from its normal lifeless icon. You are now seeing the effects of your weapons on the target while at the same time viewing your default view, your ship, whatever. And that extends to salvaging, tractor beam, etc. No matter what ( with option to disable) when you clicked on a locked target this would occur.
A similar circular live feed closeup could also replace the little crosses that represent the targeted ship in space (with of course another option to disable) I don't know if it would work out if this also had the option to make larger or smaller as well.

There there is the matter of making the weapons actually look like their damaging the ship more than the subtle way they do now. Such as seeing the ships shields taking damage, an effect that would change visually the more damaged it became until the shield failed and your wepons started biting into armor then hull. Pieces breaking off and flying into space, burn holes, other signs of damage so it doesn't look like we're shooting at invincible lego ships. Invincible until they explode that is.

that was an idea proposed adn set as a CCP gal a long time ago, the ships breaking apart i mean. problme is we need to completely covert everything to V3, then a bunch of other ****.

blah blah this adn that, CCP has stated that until the majority (in their eyes) of the playerbase upgrades to a DX11 capable computer, they will not be pushing out any serious graphic overhauls.

Well **** its 2013!! I should hope the majority of players have DX11 capabilities. Everyone I have ever talked to in game does. I should hope CCP is seriously considering it before star citizen comes and blows eve away.

I don't. Not everyone who can afford to play EVE can afford a brand-new computer, you know.

Assuming Chris Roberts delivers on his extravagant promises in any reasonable way, I sincerely doubt Star Citizen will significantly impact EVE in a negative way. There are a number of games that have come out between 2003 and 2013 that were heralded as EVE-killers - yet EVE is still around and those games are dead and buried.

I too would like to have the cool details you describe in your original post, but until everyone who plays EVE has a DX11 capable machine and every ship EVER has been updated to V3 graphics, then it's unlikely to happen.

Well DX11 has been out since 2007 so that is far from new. Truth is I bet most people are DX11 than DX9 by now and if theyre not they should be left behind so things can move on and get better.
