You're a new player? You don't know how to change your alts looks? You don't know where to go before and after the starter missions? And your alt is a year old? O no....

Seriously, you should've been playing the game long enough to know just about everything I have to show in my videos right now. And while I might have some "advance" things coming out once in awhile. The entire thing with Rookies in EVE is targeted toward new players.

That being said, I do have other EVE videos. But they aren't really targeted to anyone yet.

So giving that and every view hardly makes me money. It's fair to say I don't care too much about what anyone says with the video/audio quality. The only thing I care about is if the newer player is able to learn the game by a mixture of my videos and trying out what they see.
Now with that. I do listen to what people have to say. Some people have told me they love the guitar music. Now I'm trying to find more songs with guitars. I've been told by a lot of people they love the "happy" music. So I'm trying to stick to happy music. I've also been told to point out triggers in missions. I'm even trying to do that.

So if you/or anyone has a tip that doesn't cost me money. Then go ahead.

Well, I for one would like to thank Craig for suggesting the glasses to CCP and then not liking them!!!! Roll

We may as well use this as a teaching tool.

The first thing we can learn here is how to post in the correct forum. This video belongs in OOPE (out of pod experience) because this forum is not for advertising your youtube channel with clueless ramblings about things you don't understand.

The next thing we can learn is never trust information from just one source as some sources are notoriously wrong. If you need a tutorial video or guide on something you are interested in ask in this forum section or use a reputable source like EVEuni or Agony.

The last thing we can gain from this video is why new players are always told not to be afraid of someone just because they have been playing longer and may have an expensive ship. Many vets are like Craig here and don't even have their overview set up. If you were to meet him in a low sec belt or on the other end of a war dec you would win just by having a better understanding of game mechanics.

No I like the fact they gave us clear glasses. But, I assume they would've worked on the frame itself. Then again, it's easier to start with what you already have.

Anyways I was wondering when you were going to show up. You commented on all my other how to videos. Saying I am trying to get people to join my corp when I never said anything like that. Then you said something like I was trying to screw over new players by feeding them false info. Then you said I was trying to tell a new player to have a cov ops ship to go to data sites, when I never said that. Now you're saying I have my overview setup wrong when it's not even showing in this video.
You've been trolling my post so hard that the mods have even deleted a few of your comments.

But that being said. Which part of the guide did I screw up? This guide was a mixture on how to customize your alt, and what the new update gave us. That's it.

Thanks for bumping up my guide to the top of the list so new players can see how they can customize their alt.

A couple of things.

I mentioned this to you in a separate thread a while back, but i will repeat it here.
When people are acting hostile towards you there is 4 things you can do.
1) Try to counter attack them.
2) Leave a note saying thank you, their concerns have been noted.
3) Read between the lines, note what they complain about and change it.
4) Don't respond to them at all.

The first one is the option you have gone with, you try to counter attack, defending your self, and coming across as hostile and it makes it much more enjoyable for people to keep attacking you in the first place, because they know they will get a reaction from you. Clearly you are not happy with this outcome, and it does not do you any good in the long run so try to go with one of the other 3 options if possible.

Now for one of the main complaints. The sound.
I understand that a new mic is out of the question right now, so these are ideas that can help you without costing you anything.
Also please note, im not a native english speaker which also means that i have to struggle a bit more then other native english speakers to understand you.

You can not change your voice, but you can change how you talk. Currently you sound like you are..well bored. Sorry, just saying how it sounds. Sit up, straighten your back, take a deep breath and then talk. Raise your voice a bit, not much, just a tiny bit so you sound more...focused.

Im also guessing your not talking from a script. This can be good and bad but in this case i would say its just bad. The pauses and repeating words making it obvious that your trying to think about how to formulate something makes my attention drift and adds to me feeling bored watching the video. Write a script, read over it a few times, outline what you want to talk about and then do the recording. The same feeling comes when you say "But um", try to avoid that.

The music. This is honestly one of the things that makes it the most difficult for me to understand you. The music is really distracting and it "overlaps" you. Either skip the music all together, or find one of the EVE themes that are very calm and quiet and use that.

The intro. If it hadent been for the fact that im extremely stubborn I would never have made it trough that intro. The quality is even worse during the intro, and it sometimes sound like your almost... well spitting into the mic. I would have loved to tell you exactly what words makes it sound like that but honestly I can not understand what you are saying (I think its S something) and in general it sounds like you have tried to make it very dramatic, but because of the bad quality its more..annoying.
Something that might help you is a Pop filter, which you can either buy or make your self. Granted the home made ones is not the best, but it might be enough to improve the quality to the point were people will be able to get trough the intro.

And i would also avoid "thanking people for the bump". Many people will read the comments before they check the link just to get an idea on if its worth it. Currently this thread getting bumped wont really do you any favors beyond letting people see you trying to argue and getting hostile, which will not gain you respect but you can be sure people will note your name and just skip any thread you create (unless they find a lot of amusement from watching the drama of course Lol ).

Your idea is good, but it needs improvements, and you need to be able to deal with the criticism without getting hostile. Until you can do that you wont be able to improve your videos, the information you give to new players, and your reputation within the NCQA/EVE community.

I had three options:

  1. Close the thread as not salvageable.
  2. Remove all the posts that broke one ore more of the forum rules.
  3. Delete only the most offensive and rule breaking text from the individual posts and let the thread stand as it is.

Out off courtesy I have chosen the most time consuming one, 3. Don't make me regret it please.
So, the OP has the right to post his guides as well as others have the right to be critical about the quality and/or content. But please keep the discussion civil!

2. Be respectful toward others at all times.

The purpose of the EVE Online forums is to provide a platform for exchange of ideas, and a venue for the discussion of EVE Online. Occasionally there will be conflicts that arise when people voice opinions. Forum users are expected to be courteous when disagreeing with others.

4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.

22. Post constructively.

Negative feedback can be very useful to further improve EVE Online provided that it is presented in a civil and factual manner. All users are encouraged to honestly express their feelings regarding EVE Online and how it can be improved. Posts that are non-constructive, insulting or in breach of the rules will be deleted regardless of how valid the ideas behind them may be. Users are also reminded that posting with a lack of content also constitutes non-constructive posting.

As for asking for real life money for whatever reason, it is prohibited in-game and on this forum unless specifically sanctioned by CCP. And that is a very rare occurrence...

I pointed this out earlier but i will again. You say you wish the trolls would learn but the same goes for you. You know what they say, dont feed the trolls. This is what you have been doing by getting so defensive.

I made a pretty long post in this very thread explaining how you can improve things, but that advice seems to completely have been disregarded as well.

I also pointed out how people would read the comments and how the bad comments from you (and others to some extent) will make it even less likely that people watch your videos. Yet here you are again making it sound like a good thing that people "bump" your post with hostile comments.

Now for why people dont just PM you.
Honestly, i think that many people dont because the chances of you actually going out there and saying "Yea this information has been corrected" is very slim unless your called out in public since you seem to have an issue with peoples criticism. Posting in your thread is the best (note best, not only) way for people to make sure that the correct information is given to the new players.

Sorry i would love to actually help you, since as mentioned before i think its a good idea, but im about to give up my self unless you have an attitude change of your own and show that you are actually interested in following peoples advice when possible (and justified, and several people saying the same thing is a good indication it is).

If you had also spent some time reading these forums you would also realize that a lot of the people you call "trolls" are well liked on the forums because they do help people. But they will treat you the same way you treat them, and when it comes to the forum game they are a lot more experienced then you are. Treat them with respect and they will respect you.

Well, I agree with a lot of what you say and have a lot of respect for your forum replies but as a member of this community for over 5 years, I can attest that there are indeed trolls in these forums.

Now some of them may have valid points but the majority of them post replies designed to be hurtful, plain and simple.

However, it seems your reply here in this thread comes across like a scolding, especially this :

Granted if several people do remark about a specific issue then it very well could be valid. Course on the flip side Trolls do have a bad habit of ganging up and jumping on / exploiting one specific issue, especially if it becomes a sore spot.

Now I saw something about Personal Message or conversation in game. That would have been much better instead of posting a chastising reply here, especially if you're sincere about helping out by providing some positive constructive direction.

Like you, I think what Craig Bennett2th is doing is a great idea. Right now it's like a diamond in the rough and needs some refining help which, if I'm not mistaken, you seemed inclined to do. After being refined, these video guides could then be listed in appropriate order within one thread. When new / future video guides are added to the list in the original post, a new post to the thread announcing said video would then give the thread an exposure bump.

Every member of this community is like family and as such we should all be helping each other, especially those who undertake a big job of creating a guide or guide series (best if the help / constructive comments are done privately, behind the scenes).

Anyway, I really didn't intend to go off on this subject or chastise your posted reply. In fact, I have my own guide thread to worry about.

I post here on the forums about how the videos are bad for 1 reason.

If I did private message him, no new player would see that the videos are giving false and outdated information and thus will take everything for granted.

The issue why he has so many trolls, he just don't want to listen to advice and keeps claiming his way is best.
