Quick Question:

Are the two ships supposed to be similar with capabilities with one having just slightly more power or oomph? I just looked at the two of them on the market and they are not the same.

It looks like when the Geddon got modified to fit more of a missile/drone boat someone forgot to do the same to the Navy.

P.S.: I was going to do a copy paste from Evelopedia but it needs to be updated as well...

When they changed the geddon to a capwarfare/drone boat they decided to keep the navy geddon as a laser dps platform for "old times sake",

its a similar thing to how the scorpion is an ECM battleship but the navy scorpion is a missile lobbing bricktank.

and how the navy domi keeps its gun bonus instead of a second drone bonus,

and the navy phoon is a missile/gun boat instead of just missiles.

Can someone explain to me why the new geddon is so bad? It has 5 launcher hardpoints. Stick the new cruises in there and you're doing 1200 DPS at 50km, and with faction neuts you're also neuting your targets at 50km.

If you want to go full-on close range gank you can get 1950 DPS at 16km with torps and Ogre IIs. I'm not saying this fit is all that great, but I'm pretty sure that outdamages a max-gank Vindicator at almost three times the range. (This is with faction mods, not officer stuff)

lasers are cool! and the 8/3/8 slot layout was just iconic.

and to do 1200 at 50km that is a lot of damage mods and tracking links (so should work for a pve boat). and that 1950 torp geddon looks pretty useless, nothing but damage mods and overloaded torp launchers with rage. I think torps are a bit better than people give them credit for, but rage torps are very situational. bring it down to 3 damage mods and faction torps and the numbers look pretty similar to a megapulse geddon which also has scorch.

neuts and drones are pretty cool, but I never really felt I wanted more range on my heavy neuts. I'm sure people will do some awesome things with the new geddon. I dunno its just like a slightly different domi now, I'd much rather have a gun bonus and some extra drone room. Its an amarr ship after all....

all I know is I refuse to unfit my old geddons and hope one day ccp wakes up with some sense and fixes them back the way they were!

It's not bad per se. Changing an iconic pulse laser platform into "just another drone boat" is an emotional thing.

Personally I would have been fine with it, had they managed to produce an iconic Apoc hull redesign. As it is, the Apoc just looks like one of those small dogs hopping around and not at all like an iconic attack battleship.

Big smile

Same for me. It's still sitting untouched in the hangar, waiting for better times that probably will never come.

i didnt say it was bad, i said it was ruined.
to take the best and most iconic heavy dps laser ship and turn it into a neut support drone boat is a kick in the teeth.
it's like taking a ferrari, paining it yellow and running a taxi service with it.

This.

You can still pew pew with a Navy Geddon, its still it old bad ass self (Its probably my favorite Amar hull)

However calling the new geddon ruined is just silly, its a pretty amazing utility battleship, x5 45km neuts and a generous drone bay makes it sort of a beast. You won't be missioning with it, but its a ~real~ fun hull. Particularly when you have to deal with triage carriers and hictors and such.

Actually the new geddon makes for a credible PvE boat. It's the damage-type independant BS that Amarr have lacked for years.

It's also a wonderful soloboat compared to the old geddon :)

I've tried it, without a range bonus it's fairly hard to keep sentry drones alive since the rats will switch to them and when your range maxes out at 52km you can't stay out of range of the rats.

Geddon is now a pure support ship. Its a better heavy neut domi for the most part. While pretty useless solo, it has some nice potential for use in large armor fleets, and should be used in those comps over a bhallgorn (unless you can afford the bhall.

As for the navy geddon- again it has no solo / small gang potential, however in a large armor gang you could do worse. Use it for general DPS.

If you only have a 52km range with a PvE drone boat you are doing it completely wrong. Add link augmentors and a sebo, presto, 100km drone control range if you have even average drones skills (and sentry IIs)

That EFT warrior fit is useless under any situation, pvp or pve. Between drone and missile dmg mods, you have no low left. After omnis, you have to mid left. The torp fit is even worse.

The 1.1k dps Navy Geddon carebear fit is in real dps. 65 +20km Scorch, with 3x TCs blapping frigs down to 10km, and Curators matching range, tracking, and dmg type, not Ogres or Gardes.

Rage torp isn't the same as Scorch, Ogre isn't the same as Curator.
