I was looking for load outs for a retriever on battle clinic. Some of them have a survey scanner in a the med slot. My question is does the scanner provide enough value to justify using the only med slot.

If you're using an ice harvester or a standard T1 strip miner you're better off fitting a medium shield extender. The only real reason to have a survey scanner on a solo ship, so far as I'm concerned, is if you're using modulated lasers, and that goes moreso if you're using T2 crystals.

Civilian Shield Booster FTW.

EvE is supposed to suck.  Wait . . . what was the question?

I always used a survey scanner. For some reason strip miners won't tell you that the asteroid is empty till the end of the cycle.

A medium shield extender might help but would it be enough to stop a one or two destroyer gank?

The survey scanner will pop up a window with only the asteroids in them, their remaining units and distance.

It is this window why I fit a survey scanner. One can use it to lock onto asteroids and does not have to use the overview. This lets one reduce the amount of things shown on the overview and one can watch out for rats and other players more easily.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

I usually run a survey scanner for the reasons listed. However, I have also run a sensor booster with a targeting range script to be able to lock rats when they're farther out and thus be able to send the drones after them sooner.

Besides using the scanner to remove rocks from the overview. The scanner will show u how much ore is in the rock so ur not locking into rocks that have less than 1 cycle worth of ore in them but using full cycle time. Which really screws up ur isk /hr. Its less useful for ice mining except at the end when the field is on its last breath and theres 10 miners sucking on same rock u can be fairly sure u wont be the one to take last blocks so save urself the hassle and leave the last blocks. And still u have the overview advantage.

A survey scanner is worth it's weight in isk..

No miner should undock without one.

I've never undocked with one. I've also never regretted not having one.

Then just however do I manage to get 250m worth of minerals per day filling my hangars without doing any sort of anti-NPC PvE? People certainly don't just give me ore and minerals for free out of the kindness of their hearts. Lol
