You have a choice, Time Dilation, or node crash. CCP believes the former is the better solution.

Actually, we don't have a choice.

And CCP leans on tidi instead of improving their infrastructure. There is no other game I know of that regularly subjects their users to 1/10th game speed during the best parts of the game (big fleet battles).

Frankly, if I was CCP I would be ashamed of tidi and/or coding practices that lead to a game that can't scale.

There is no other MMO I know who responds to the problem of "too many people wanting to be in the same place" with "lets figure out how to let more people in".

All the other MMOs just slap population caps on everything to keep the population too low to cause problems.

Tell that to the NSA.

The NSA can split their activities over many pieces of hardware much easier than CCP can.

Let me explain why tidi is bad.

So you're in a system. Local escalates. Smartbombs and Bombs start going off (AOE calculations). Tidi kicks in.

If anything of value is on the field, as right now the entire Test cap fleet, everyone in surrounding systems ships up and piles in.

As more ships pile in, tidi gets worse. And the worse it gets, the more people reship and the more people pile in, keeping tidi at basically a completely unplayable level.

Tidi is a solution for crashing, it's not a solution for gameplay.

Lowest common denominator argument again.

Well, I obviously don't have your technical expertise and insight into the NSAs hardware systems.

Tell us more.

Well, for one the NSA got lots more funds from the goverment and probably access to military grade hardware.

Not that it matters anymore, seems TEST is not going to bother logging on when the server gets back up so they won't lose their caps.

So CCP remapped the node with a 2000 man fight going.

CCP has three choices regarding too many people wanting to be in system:
- Population caps.
- Time dilation.
- Node death.

If there is another option, please tell us what it is.

If you want population caps, go play another MMO. Any other MMO.

It all comes down to Parallel computing. Eve Online server processes are too dependent on each other for it to be possible to split a system across multiple hardware nodes. So one CCP have a node sitting on the best hardware possible, adding extra hardware does nothing.

At the other extreme you have decrypting through brute force. Get yourself a bunch of computers, assign each computer a block of passwords to try. Then the computers don't need to communicate with each other at all until one computer hits the correct password. So if your current hardware is insufficient, you can throw more hardware at it till it competes. Even if each computer you add is a piece of crap, you can keep adding them till they outperform a single top of the line machine.

Then you have to consider budget constraints.

Hesod, I didn't read your post. I am trying to figure out how to extract my pod out of Z9PP
