getting the best of both. the icons

had to write this post twice... Roll

both have its advantage, right?
- easy to distinguish
- good contrast

however they remember a bit to much on fallout 1 graphics

- same model as in 3d, very detailed
- you can distinguish item variations
( - no maintenance for CCP, adding new weapons does not involve the art team)

so can we have the best of both?

yep, i think so:
lets try to render the 3d models in 2d and make it look like proper icons.
take a edge/silhouette detection shader and render it color coded in a orthographic projected side view. (sounds fancy but it really isn't)
Color coded means lasers read, blasters green, hybrids blue... The shader would remove many details and let only important features through. This would make it look like a real world blueprint just in a more abstract way.

reverting to the old icons is a good "quickfix" however it also feels like a step back.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value
