They're not that great anyway.

To put it more accurately they're not expensive because they're that great. They're expensive because they're rare, because new ones haven't been created for a long time and existing ones keep getting lost from time to time. If you just want to maximize your mining output, ignore them.

And to clarify more why they're not great..

They have twice the mining amount as a T1 mining drone, twice the size, twice the bandwidth and just over half the speed. When compared to a T2 mining drone, they have 5m3 more yield, twice the bandwidth, twice the size and half the speed.

As a result of the bandwidth and size, only the exhumers can carry and use a full flight of them, the barges can only carry 2 which will give less yield than 5 mining drones and as result of their speed, they'll be less useful than normal mining drones unless you're sitting on top of the asteroid they're mining. Normal mining drones are slow enough.

TL;DR stick with T1 mining drones until you can use T2 mining drones.

With all that said ... it would be nice if CCP would introduce a new source of harvesters to the game. Perhaps BPCs could drop in exploration sites or be purchasable in the ORE loyalty point store. They aren't VERY useful, but would be somewhat useful if the price weren't so sky high due to rarity. Having more options is pretty much always a good thing.

Originally they were carried by NPC traders and couriers. Some people got very lucky by ganking the NPCs and picking them up in drops. CCP then stopped seeding them for some reason and their price has slowly increased as they become more and more rare.

Totally pointless to use them if you ask me.

i say release blueprint for them. They do have disadvatages i know of. band , size , speed as you said....but when you mine next to asteroid that additional 5 yeild matters , it grows up to 200 yeild for 5 drones. rule is for long range farming take T2 , for direct contact harvesters are better. And soon i will get a makinaw thats why im asking about harvesters.I know mining barge cant take'em.

Just....... just don't ok. Just do like everyone else and get over your 'eve is about mining rocks' thing and start cross training for a decently fit combat ship... or you're probably going to be space-fracked by some -10.0 hero and end up back here having a cry....
I've done some really stupid shit in this game.

releasing the blueprint is a good idea. as you say , T2 are better. they also require droid mining at max while harvesters have low req. for me realeasing a blueprint is a good idea to make them cheap and "back in to the market".
btw il do what i want m8 and i want max drones ! :)

Buy all mining drones. Fly around high sec d scanning for miner drones. When found scan down ship and gank scoop drones. Sell Scooped drones add customer to watch list, locater agent, gank and repeat.

Would be better to add medium mining drones, and let harvesters become a collectors item only.

You realize that Harvester drones have not dropped since September of '03? Apparently CCP doesn't think that they are all that important.

Not advocating the use the Harvesters in any way, but you CAN negate the speed penalty somewhat
by fitting a Drone Navigation Computer. That opens another can of CPU usage worms, but it can be done.

Wouldn't mind a medium mining drone, but I'm guessing it won't happen.
