Settle this once and for all, is it worth salvaging a mission when you're solo?

I've done all these calculations for many missions long time ago (2 years) when I started Pro Synergy and put all the data into a spreadsheet. The data is now outdated as CCP have heavily nerfed the loot and added bounties to drones, but that should only serve to further prove the point here.
Keep in mind that this data was collected using a T2 fitted maxed skilled Nightmare and T2 fitted Noctis for salvaging.

Hello Niko.. I don't have a google account. Can you give me a summary?

Like all good sales propaganda it says you make less if you shoot and loot yourself, in most cases. Use Pro Synergy and you make more. What is doesn't however show, which seems to be the case in most comments so far, is what the outcome will be if you actually did something with the loot\salvage once you have a lot of it, eg building rigs, etc.
Best is to try it for yourself and see, not everyone can be bothered getting a BP and making stuff. I can guarantee you though that all those buy orders for armor plates, etc.. are not to just resell them Blink

I keep hearing people say that it's not even worth salvaging level IV missions when you're solo, because in the time it takes you to salvage you can do one or two more missions, which net you roughly the same amount of isk. So, is that true? Most times I am soloing missions and salvaging them afterwards (even level Is), but I'm not sure if it's better to not salvage now.

"Settle once and for all - which is the best ship in EVE!" -- this depends on a wide array of opinions and situations -- so does your question.

How fast can you do them?
What mission did you get (quantity)?
What types of salvage may you get? from the wrecks?
What missions *might* you get next?
How important is "not losing standings" (rejecting missions) vs income?

yada yada yada...

It's not so simple as salvage or not. If you hit a string of junk missions that you reject, or missions that take you longer to fly through them and such... A lot depends on it and even your question...

"... not even worth salvaging L4's ... which net you roughly the same ..." -- roughly the same?

That's "toss a coin" on which you prefer doing yet for some it's better to salvage while others it's better to just grab another one and run it - that's by individual choice.

There really is no final resolution on this question, just like my smart mouthed question at the start of this post.

Like a few have mentioned, salvage drones...

I honestly rarely use combat drones unless I can't pop the frigs before they get to me. I just kill stuff and let the drones do the work, works like a champ. Also, finish a one pocket mission, deploy drones, go have a smoke or crap, bammo, all salvaged heh

Then if it's a profitable loot mission (most have been metioned) I come back and loot the cans after a couple missions.

I realise the OP wants a clear cut answer but I think it's a case of skill points, LP returns and enemy faction.

Why skillpoints?
If you can't kill things quick enough then salvaging will give you equal or slightly more isk/tick than going off and trying to do the next one. If you're in a marauder, you can salvage as you go.

LP returns?
LP returns are the hidden variable. you will always be able to get 1k/LP. If you're lucky enough to find an item that sells for 3k/LP and does so regularly then blitzing is likely a great idea.

Enemy faction?
Guristas have good loot but lousy salvage. Angels have great loot and great salvage, as does EoM. And once again, their "value" as loot or salvage targets decrease or increase depending on which ship you're sitting in.

And that's the kicker. Yes, you can make a shitload of cash from LP if you take the time to convert it at a high rate. Which takes a shitload of time. Which lowers your ISK over time ratio.

^^ This. If you do the research (lpstock.ru), you'll see the highest returns are on items you build from BPCs bought with LP. You'll also notice, once you enter the market, that you're now engaged in market PvP with the other guys trying to do the same thing. Shoot for 1k to 2k return, of which there are many options in many corporations.

The answer to the question is based on time chunks you play in v.s. skill level.

Once you get to the top 1% of mission runners the question really shows up.

You burn though missions so fast that you don't have time to salvage right?

Wrong. You will need to salvage more than ever before if you play in large chunks.

Drone missions don't pay. You turning them down? You turning down missions v.s. the major 4 empires?

At some point it's such a pain to get to the next agent that you actually make more isk by stretching out the time to get missions done.

I'd chose the solo salvage/loot anytime I can't help a buddy or a new player out by splitting the salvage/loot with them.

It feels like more isk per hour when I loot/salvage too. I've had 30 min chunks of mission/loot see 56 million total between the bounty/reward/loot/salvage not including the LP.

When you have a maxed out noctis and use it to the up most of it's ability you'll see that loot/salvaging is always the answer. Until then your ability or lack of ability to loot/salvage quickly will decide the answer.

Don't slow your missions down with salvage drones.
Stack your book marks in order and have 3-5 missions worth to pick up at once.
Learn to use salvage drones on the noctis. Don't bother tractor beaming in wrecks with no loot. Just use one drone per wreck.
