Macbook Air - Most Epic Ultraportable Ever?

People who dislike the MacBook Air just haven's used the most recent one. It's fantastic, and I hate Apple products with a passion (well, the iPad has a lot of potential but is kinda pricy, and the iPhone is a good piece of hardware, but MacBook Pro, iMac, and all the accessories are overpriced as ****).

Anyways, MacBook Air is a quality laptop, a $400 netbook is a piece of useless crap compared to an Air. Plus, can you play EVE without much issue (besides the chance of thermonuclear fusion happening in the corner) on a $400 netbook?

Except the notebook cost less than half the MacBook Air, and you're probably running windows on it, which makes it a bad comparison.

$250 netbook with Archlinux, best thing I bought this year. It doesn't run eve, but hey it's the quarter of the cost of a MacBook Air, barely heavier, and probably faster overall, with an OS that's designed to be fast.

It's a quality laptop with a crappy OS and a totally off the charts price, but hey! It's quality...

I learned long ago not to argue with people who use linux with some semblance of exclusivity and skill. You people have one opinion, and are determined to inform everyone that its the only opinion. Enjoy your snobbishness!

(P.S. I recognize the irony, coming from someone who now uses a MacBook Air, but I've learned to not judge a computer or its OS till I've used it, there are some distress of Linux I like, but its not the only and most godly OS group in the world).

Roll

After the number of times you've crowed about the Air in response to every criticism of it, you don't have much room to harp on others for having strong opinions.

The Air, like other Apple computers, is a solid piece of hardware with a mediocre OS (and I'm comparing it to Windows) and a price tag that puts it outside my budget. For the price of an Air, I can buy a far superior Windows computer. Since I'm capable of carrying more than two pounds at a time, I'm not concerned with "ultraportable" and won't pay the premium attached to any such device.

I have the same opinion on the MacBook Pro. Great laptop, horrible price. I'll buy something else.

I don't see where you think I'm crowing on about it, I say I enjoy the laptop and it fits a particular need very well. Comparable laptops that fit the same need are about the same price. I don't mind the OS, but I guess others hate Mac OSX. You're entitled to your opinion, but you say the MacBook Air is **** and that people only get it because its an Apple product, which is simply not true. Out of curiosity, have you used the MacBook Air (the most recent model) for any length of time?

I want netbook to replace by PDA (Toshiba E800/805). I barely use my laptop (iBook G3) to begin with, it almost never leaves the house, replacing a laptop is not an issue for me.

Netbook will not work for someone who needs full size screen, full size keyboard and needs to travel.

My sister was asking me about replacing her laptop (something G4, not Air) with netbook. She travels, but she found out that she does not really need laptop while she does. I think you are a person in similar situation.

The Mac Book Air is a massive waste of money, for a little extra you can get a macbook, tbh I would just spend the extra and get a MacBook Pro.

The fact the sold any at all is testament to the strength of the Apple brand, and nothing at all about what you get for your pennies.

I've been using Mac portables for over 10 years now and I wouldn't bother with the Air even though they are coming down in price I would spend extra and get a MBP.

Son you done got trolled by Mr Apple.

Ehm, sir, i own both the MacBook Air (my own) and i have the MacBook Pro (got it from the school). And there is one thing you need to get your facts right on. And that is that the MacBook Pro with a normal harddrive is 3-4 times slower to load things than my 11.6 inch MacBook Air (2010 model) does.

When it comes to rendering stuffs in Adobe Photoshop or working with Adobe Premiere Pro or Adobe After Effects and programs like those who need CPU power, then for sure the MacBook Pro will come in handy. But for speed on loading and starting programs, the MacBook Pro feels like i'm using a laptop from 2002 compared to how the speed is on my MacBook Air.

Now i'm using Windows 7 on my MacBook Air, but with Mac OSX installed on it, the Air is just crazy fast.

2: Clash of the Empires

And it's still an overpriced bauble.....

You can keep your 3-4x faster in certain circumstances Air, I'll stick with the MBP, also you have both, wtf were you thinking?

It's not overpriced at all.

First of all, the 2010 model of the MacBook Air 11.6 inch have a better screen than the 13.1 inch MacBook Pro and the other 10.1 and 11.6 inch laptops out on the market today. The MacBook Air have an SSD that beats the crap out of the normal hdd's that the MacBook Pro's have and absolutely beats the freaking crap out of the hdd's the 10.1 inch netbooks have. Comparing those is like comparing a Toyota Yaris against a Bugatti Veyron.

The MacBook Air have the worlds best touchpad (same with MacBook Pro) and it have a full size keyboad and not those shrinked crappy touchpads and keyboards like the 10.1 inch netbooks have. And it have a chassis made out of aluminium that actually make the laptop to look clean and good for a loooooong long time.

You get scratches on those plastic fantastic laptops by just looking hard enough on them in no time.

So with the things i told over that the MacBook Air have, then find me an other 11.6 inch laptop that weighs around 1 kg that have the same things or better that also costs less money than the current 2011 model of the 11.6 inch MacBook Air?
