T2 missiles or faction ones???

Recently I decided that I wanted to switch from rails/basters to missiles. So, after a couple of weeks of training I got t2 launchers (talking about light missiles here) and decided to go test them out with a buddy (he had a tackling ship, I had a kiting kestrel/condor), I immediately noticed that fury missiles are horrible against frigate targets and immediately gave them up, I then decided to give precision missiles a shot and those were much better. However, after i asked around, people said to me that using faction missiles is better. So, now I don't know which ones to use when a fight happens. Help?

Now, to clarify a couple of things, we are talking about frigate fights here, nothing bigger. Also we are talking with the assumption that I can keep the 20km range from the target in order to use t2 precisions.

A final note, if you want to ***** about how blasters are better than missiles, dont do it here, I want some help, not someone bitching. thanks for any help :D

Long range Missiles:
Precisions - ships smaller/faster than you
Navy -ships that are approximately your size
Furys - ships that are bigger than you, slight damage gain

Both the t2 versions have less range, which is a trade off for hitting harder on larger or applying more damage to smaller.

Short range Rockets/HAMs/Torps:
Javelin - gives large increase to overall range, slight damage loss
Navy - ships that are approximately your size
Rage - ships that are bigger than you, slight damage gain

Here you are trading longer range for damage and higher damage for damage application ability.

For light missiles, I agree with what the poster above said. Basically use faction ammo against frigs and fury against everything bigger. For rockets, always use rage or javelin, never faction. Typically explosion radius and velocity is small enough that the increase from rage is negligible compared to the increased damage. For hams, it largely depends on ship hull. Outside of the navy caracal, I typically only use faction and javelin. On the navy caracal I use rage for cruiser and above. I don't use heavy missiles or battleship size missiles

I'd like to throw another question into the mix here (another long time turret guy just really getting into a few missile platforms).

I'm mainly a laser user...so damage type has never been a concern...so it's one of my sticking points for missiles. What do most people choose when they load up their cargo? All 4 damage types? 2 specific ones, etc? (disregarding ships with a damage type bonus)

I would guess loading up all 4 types would get annoying trying to switch ammo all the time...

Get some crash booster, get some better skills. CN is generally a better missile to use, however yes precision will apply more damage in extreme situations. If you are really that worried about it, gram some small warhead rigors for your rig slots, or a TP.

I bring all 9 missile types when I am out roaming (Assuming the hull I am using doesn't have an innate bonus)

If it does have a bonus, then I bring fury / CN of that type- along with EM, EXP, and FOF missiles

This is the first time ive read someone recomend fof missiles. When is it worth the 10s reload time?

Yes i have killed many ECM ships that way. its amazing, and one of the main reasons I use missiles over guns. You ignore TD's, ECM, and Damps. Its quite nice.

i run inferno missiles as default since most people plug em/explosive resistances with rigs and such they generally leave thermal untouched and it becomes their lowest resist.
