Can I attack him?

So... after pestering my wife to play for the last several weeks she has finally completed the tutorials and we are getting ready to start her SoE epic arc.

While we are in the vicinity we may take to some exploration/ratting etc..

So if we are just minding our business and one of us gets attacked can the other fleet member(s) attack without penalty?

Seems a sensible thing to me.

There are too many different scenarios too consider to make a blanket statement. However, if he starts blinking on your overview, then you are weapons free. If in doubt, leave your safety on green and lock and fire any way. If your ship won't fire, then it is not legal for you too.

Need more information. What was the security status of the system? Were you in the middle of a mission? Did the person arrive in the mission area as a neutral and then go blinky (to your fleetmate)?

Purely hypothetical.

We are just getting ready to start creeping into more dangerous systems and I don't want her rage quitting on me :D

This is one of her biggest complaints about the game... She loves putting cute outfits on her game avatars and prancing about.

In EVE there is very little prancing...

Hypothetically...

If you go into low-sec and both of you have -4.9 security status or higher (you most likely do) then if when someone attacks one of you they will go "suspect status." You will then be perfectly free to engage without fear of any penalty.

Be aware that this mechanic runs independent of the fleet, corporate, and/or alliance mechanics.

High-sec aggression mechanics are a different beast and a bit more convoluted.

However, the best thing you both can do is use more nimble ships and D-Scan (directional scanner... found to the left of your capacitor HUD) to avoid and/or escape from danger before hostiles can grab you. It will take practice and you both will be blown up as you learn.

The only circumstances where someone would be free to attack one of you and not the other:

-You are in different player corps, and the aggressor has a war going with one of you but not the other.
-You or your partner have gone "suspect" (or criminal), which allows anyone to freely aggress the suspect but not the attacker
-You or your partner have a security status of -5.0 or below

If someone in high-security space were to attack you without provocation (without one of you going Suspect or a valid war), they would go criminal - in addition to being attackable by everyone, CONCORD will be coming down on them in a few seconds to destroy their ship.

If someone in low-security space were to do so in front of a gate or a station, they would take a security status hit and eat gate/station gun fire, but this is not nearly so untankable as CONCORD. If they attacked away from a gate or station there is no penalty save the security status hit. However, once he attacked, he would go "suspect" and your wingman could attack freely.

Being in a fleet does not have any effect whatsoever on aggression mechanics.

doesnt sound like her type of game...

but in all seriousness since you are her partner you should aggress whoever attacks her out of principle. If you are in low sec you won't be concorded and unless she somehow has a limited engagement with the hostile or she herself is suspect then you will take sec status hits and become suspect

This tells me that yes, I can freely engage and likewise can she if we are:

1) not already suspect

2) not the aggressor

You really need to hang it up with this type of boolsheet.

What's wrong with aurum? Chicks dig aurum. "Hang it up"? That a stealth statement NEX needs more clothes? I agree. Especially more leather. When one wears leather, it's almost like one has thicker skin on, eh?

Bullshit?...I guess you haven't been around a woman, ever. They love shoes of any type even fake video game shoes.

If you're a woman and I offended you I'm terribly sorry. Now get back in the kitchen!
