It is appalling how this doesn't happen often enough to create threads on AFK cloaking on this subforum.

To be fair, we don't live in fear of a cloaky ship suddenly lighting a cyno and dropping a huge fleet on us; it's entirely possible to position sentries down your chain and have meaningful warning, which isn't necessarily the case in nullsec.

So maybe cloaking isn't the issue? ;)

I think CCP should make it impossible to cloak in WHs. Makes them too easy.

Confirming that, in nullsec, you don't have gates that spawn in known places that you can just warp to without probes. You also can't have scouts on said gates. And you can't have intel channels that warn you of anyone approaching 5+ jumps away. Nope, can't happen.

If you had read the entire sentence I posted, instead of choosing to mock part of it out of context, you'd know that I was talking about hot-dropping a fleet onto a cyno, in which case the enemies are NOT moving through gates. Unless you have eyes on every hostile Titan that could conceivably drop a fleet on you, then anything with a cyno fitted is a potential threat.

And this is different to a hole spawning and dropping a 40-man T3 gang on you how? If your guy running the scan probes isn't pushing that button pretty frequently, the first thing you know about that gang is when the Hictor shows up on your face.

Local lets you KNOW that the cloaker is there, and if your system is empty, then you KNOW that it is empty. If you're ratting/mining in a system with a known (thanks local) neutral/red and you get dropped, who have you really got to blame but yourself? If you lose a ship in null while ratting, you either got AWOXed, or you screwed up. How hard is it to have a second account to watch the gate? How hard is it to go one system over to rat? How hard is it to keep your intel channel open?

Obvious troll is a troll...

SO I'm to be worried about a guy that is sitting cloaked AFKing in a system as I pass through it? That is like me expecting to be hot dropped in a system with a neutral cloaked in null.

The only difference is that in null-sec if I got whelped I'd have a bunch of tools asking how I got caught when my killmail was posted on the killboards.

You mean that there might be bad people cloaked up in my system? Oh man. I'm scared to do anything now. I might just stay in pos and rant on the forums about it :(

Convo from earlier this month:

Trent Alegheri > Was AFK cloaked off your POS most of the day, just checked back now and then to see if anything was going to happen.

JINGKO BELLS > Lol, meant to but ended up being afk cloaked all day myself in a safe spot! Sorry about that :-P

And that about sums up the impact of AFK cloaking in wormholes :-)

I like AFK wormhole cloakers. They make me feel less crazy when I start randomly talking in local. If only because I know they are out there, somewhere, and in dire need of entertainment most of the time.

No. However I have contemplated making a pedobear on dscan out of anchored cans and clever use of dashes and a paces in their names. But my copies complain of dscan litter so I have refrained thus far. If I find someone truly annoying however I may gift them that present.
