I don't plan on leaving, but it seems EvE has spoiled me, i have played eve since release.. i do quit every now and then but i always come back. My issue is all the popular MMO's seem so BORING.

So i am quite interested in what my fellow EvE players find enjoyable in the MMO world. Maybe its just my bad ADD in why i cant find other MMO's fun. The only other MMO that i was seriously into (as in played for more then a few months) was SWG, and i played that for about 2 years before the NGE

What fills your need for MMO's other then EvE?

Personally the only MMO that has me exited in the future is The Repopulation.

Vindictus is my other MMO choice atm. It's instanced/lobby-based and really repetitive at times, but the combat is good. And by good, i don't just mean good for an MMO. It's good combat for a video game period. My only real gripe is that some of the attack animations are pretty long you can't really cancel them but enemies can attack you, knock you out your animation, and still continue to combo you. It's hard to explain without actually playing/showing, but let's just say it's super annoying.

Other than that, I'm dying to jump back into FFXIV when that goes live. Pretty standard MMO in many ways, but it's oozing with production value and the class/job system helps keep things interesting because you aren't confined to one role unless you want to be confined to one role..

Have you tried Tera? How does Vindictus combat compare to it? I've heard these two games represent the new generation of MMO combat, and that they are an order of magnitude more fun and engaging than the traditional TAB-targeting / button-mashing combat systems, but I'm not sure if or how they are different from each other.

I've been dipping my toes recently in Age of Wushu, a Chinese MMO that is such a departure from other MMOs that at the beginning it can be rather confusing and alien (also due to its inherent sandbox PVP nature), but if you can bear through it's lackluster and clunky tutorials, first dozen hours of gameplay, and UI, you'll find something quite intriguing, original and with far more depth that it may seem at first.

I didn't enjoy TERA. The combat feels slow and clunky. Most animations are unnecessarily long and they root your character in place. Unlike Vindictus, it's open-world, but it's mind-numbingly, soul-crushingly repetitive. In my opinion, bosses (and other players) are the only fun enemy in the game because they're the only thing that keeps you on your toes. It looks pretty and runs like a dream even on low-end PCs, but take away the combat and it's literally like any other cookie-cutter Korean MMO grindfest.

I would still say give it a shot though if you're still curious because there are plenty of people who enjoy it. I think Vindictus is the better game and the combat is miles ahead of TERA, but TERA has an open-world, better PvP, and, for some reason, seems better optimized for most PCs. Both are a bit grindy and repetitive, but Vindictus does a better job at trying to keep things fresh.

Oh yeah, and there's tons of semi-naked people, mostly women obviously lol, in both games. It's often comical in some cases because it's like "my character is literally wearing nothing but a thong and half a shirt into battle right now, but that's the highest level gear I can get at the moment."

Personally I like to play some Champions Online, where everyone are righteous super heroes, as opposed to EVE where everyone are selfish dickheads.. so it's a nice balance :)
It lets you be really creative with your costumes and powers too.. kinda like EVE in that freeform style where you have the potential to make something that's totally useless, but could also happen to work really well if you have a clue what you're doing.

indeed explain to us what OTHER MMOs
do you men we are nbt alone

seriously
before i played EVE i did play some others but compared to EVE they are rather blend and all look the same

problem with todays and future MMO if you played one you played them all
they all seems to target the same audience and that is WoW subscribers so their designers tend to copy zlot of the game play
and by giving them a well known franchise name they hope to make quick money even tho the games offer nothing new or exiting

Recent examples STO and SWTOR
future example ESO ( which will fail miserable 6 months after launch when the fans finally realize that not everything with a TES stamp on it id the real thing )

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

I actually rather like that. It forces you to be tactical in your attacks: Do you attack or move? Do you risk that big hit or play it safe and move out of the way of that big hit? I don't get why people complain about this really - Most people got way too used to being able to swing two heavy axes while riding a unicycle the size of an ant and going the speed of light. It doesn't make any sense. Tera at least has some thought behind where and how you strike instead of the constant 'circlestrafe and spam backstab' tactic in most other mmo's.

Also funny: MMO players are whining for a 'new' MMO -> New MMO has different kind of combat -> MMO players whine :P

That said, the combat and graphics are the only good thing about the game. It *is* very repetitive, though i'd still recommend giving it a go and getting pas level 30 or so.

Also, i'd give The Secret World a try. Mechanics are so-so, but the story and atmosphere are actually pretty decent. It reminds me of Mage: The Ascension in a good way.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

EVE is definately a one of a kind game, it fulfils that need to play space pirates for me very nicely. Everyone takes a break... but we always return.

Other MMO's, i havnt found anything that fills that gap for me, maybe its the skill system which means im always advancing, or maybe its the actual loss thing.

Other MMO's i've tried, RIFT/WOW/CHAMPIONS/TERA/DCUO/AION/SWTOR/SWG/NEVERWINTER/WOT
the list is nearly endless but those are the few i can think of right now.

My problem is there's a billion and a half games that have just as much, if not more depth to them on top of having more fluid combat. In the MMO space, Vindictus, PSO2, and Rusty Hearts are just a few examples. Character action games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and thing of that nature are a few other examples.

After years of playing those games, TERA feels painfully outdated. While I understand it obviously more difficult to do an open-world Vindictus or PSO2 or whatever, it's hard for me to give TERA a pass when, in my opinion, there are still games within the genre that have handled combat much better even if they are instanced-based games.

I'm playing Wurm Online - http://wurmonline.com/ , which is the only game I currently consider better (in a very weird sense) than EVE Online.

Currently I am on a ragequit - randomly generated strong NPC enemy (think of some incursion bastard) smashed my poor me and I lost everything I carried with me, including rare items and several coins needed for the game. Which means next time I log into the game I am without any tools, items, weapons, armour and so on. Practically naked in a very hostile world.

But I know I _will_ play it again in the future...

Utopia, online text based game. Really liked that game. Not sure if its around anymore. Might not be an mmo but you had your own province and was in a kingdom together with 24 others and then warred other kingdoms.

I used to enjoy Guild Wars 2 , but lately, I have found the same thing happening to me, that has been happening since 2005.

No other MMO is worth it.

No really, most other MMOs fall to the same run of the mill GRIND this crap for hours to earn money, xp, loot, gear, over and over and over again ... I feel I am doing L4s ad nauseam.

I have tried almost every other MMORPG that exists in the MMORPG.COM database and I end up with the same over used and abused "create char, go there, kill 10 gazillion rats, iterate on it with the level fallacy and then die of boredom" mechanic.

I wish there was something really different , like an Improved and well funded version of Shores of Hazeron that doesnt look like dog poo after eating taco bell.

I have funded Project Infinity and Star Citizen in the vain hope of something actually good, but honestly, for me anyway, there is nothing actually worth the time and money out there.

Only quick fixes to relieve boredom, like World of tanks, SCROLLS and Dota2 ... And waiting on Minecraft 1.6 patch to go live so we can have HORSESSS!!! weee!!! err...

Wish I could play something else and that It grew on me.

HavenĀ“t had that feeling since EVERQUEST 1 back in 1999.

What a glorious time to be an MMO Player, everything was fresh, new and the world was Wide Open, free to explore and plunder off its riches ...

Over time all games have worked, reworked and iterated on the WOW principle, there is nothing so far I believe can be squeezed of the old formula anymore. We need new gaming, something like the skill and wait in real time system of EVE Online applied to something else.

Meh if CCP decided to create a lighter version for PC (PC only thank you) of a new branch of the EVE Universe I would gladly pay for it for years.

I was considering Wurm a couple of years ago, but back then people said it was buggy and kind fo beta-like. Is it better now? Xsyon is kind of a similar game, I think. Anybody ever play that one? It could have been a great one, if it had a bigger player population. 100% sandbox, so it gets kind of monotonous if there's nobody around to compete with.

I've messed around with Wurm now and then over the years, and it has been getting better and better, and Rolf (main dev after the Minecraft dude left), has even been hiring some other people. Earlier this year they released version 1.0, and just a few days ago they've come up with a new release, including a bunch of improvements.

Wurm is in a very playable and improved state these days, it keeps attracting more and more players, and I do think it's a very interesting game (though it may not of course not appeal to everyone: the focus is on making stuff, combat as an activity is still very lacking): my problem with Wurm is just that it requires a shitload of time invested into it, and I'm pretty short on that.

I've never tried Xsyon, but I've heard pretty bad things about it, and unlike Wurm I reckon the situation with that game keeps getting worse.
